BURLINGTON, Vermont, November 19. THE Vermont women's swimming and diving team defeated The University of Maine in a close dual Saturday afternoon. The final tally of 151-149 marked the first dual meet loss by Maine to Vermont since 1993. <\/p>\n
Maine was led by Jessie Ellis-Alcaide and Tal Shpaizer who each won one individual event. The Black Bears started the meet strong with a win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:52.93. In the 1000 free, Mimi Chovanec (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) was second in 10:45.72. Colleen Miller (Missoula, Montana) was second in the 200 free in 1:57.59, while Tal Shpaizer (Shoham, Israel) took second in the 100 back in 1:00.24. In the 100 breast, Megan McLean (Walpole, Mass.) was second, touching in 1:11.82. Mackenzie Grobmyer (Charlottesville, Va.) was second in the 200 butterfly in 2:14.50 and also second in the 200 IM in 2:15.88.<\/p>\n
In the 50 free, Jessie Ellis-Alcaide (Harpswell, Maine) was first with a time of 24.99 and she also was second in the 100 free in 54.04. Tal Shpaizer was first in the 100 butterfly in 59.95 and she added a second place finish in the 200 back in 2:09.99. Maine ended the meet strong by taking first place in the 400 free relay. Samantha Graham (Brewer, Maine) took first in both the one meter and three meter diving events and Megan Barrett (Farmington, Conn.) was second in both events. <\/p>\n
