LOS ANGELES, California, November 13. COMPETING in the Pac-10 Conference, the University of Southern California is familiar with routine challenges. Over the weekend, the Trojans handled a pair, as they registered triumphs over Arizona State and Arizona. Ranked eighth, USC's win over Arizona arrived against the fifth-rated team in the country.<\/p>\n
The Trojans may not have the firepower of some of the teams ranked ahead of them in the Top-25, but USC has impressive depth to go with the A-list presence of Larsen Jensen. The American-record holder in the 800 and 1,500 freestyles, Jensen took first place in the meets against ASU and Arizona in the 500 and 1,000 freestyles, winning the 20-lap race in 4:17.59.<\/p>\n
It's become clear that Mihaly Flaskay will be among the top-scoring breaststrokers at the NCAA Championships, as he went 54.94 in the 100 distance. Meanwhile, Sam Masson turned in a pair of impressive second-place finishes to Arizona's Albert Subirats. Masson was clocked in 49.03 in the 100 back and went a solid in-season mark of 47.39 in the 100 fly.<\/p>\n
There's no question that Victor Bodrogi will be a key scorer during the invitational portion of the campaign in the distance strokes. Over the weekend, Bodrogi went 1:47.36 in the 200 butterfly and 1:45.67 in the 200 backstroke. For good measure, Richard Gosper and Sean Sussex should be reliable in the sprint-free events, an area of weakness for the Trojans in recent years.<\/p>\n
