THE No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team used seven 1-2 finishes and wins in both diving events to beat Princeton 134-101 on Saturday at Canham Natatorium. The Wolverines claimed the fastest time or top score in 10 of 13 events on the day.

Elyse Lee (Albion, Mich./Albion) once again earned U-M's top score with two diving victories, posting a 302.62 in one-meter diving and a 306.00 in three-meter diving. Both scores surpassed zone-qualifying marks. On the swimming side, Lindsey Smith (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) claimed two wins for the second straight meet, triumphing in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle.

Opening the day, Michigan's 'A' foursome of Kaitlyn Brady (Wilmington, Del./Mount Pleasant), Justine Mueller (Monroe, Mich./Monroe), Payton Johnson (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) and Noelle Martin (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:45.15) and the Maize and Blue never looked back.

In the first individual event of the morning, Emily Hanson (Bloomington, Ill./Normal Community) nearly kept up with the Tigers' highly-touted freshman Alicia Aemisegger in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Hanson's time of 10:01.77 finished just over eight seconds behind Aemisegger's mark. Emily Brunemann (Crescent Springs, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) help build Michigan's lead, clocking in just behind Hanson at 10:03.07 for third.

U-M continued its dominance in the next two races. Lindsey Smith claimed an NCAA 'B' mark with her top time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.03), and in the 50-yard freestyle, Brady touched the wall way ahead of the field at 23.48. At the end of the two events, the Wolverines sat comfortably with a 53-21 lead.

In the most intense race of the day, Mueller put out her best effort of the season to keep up with Aemisegger in the 400-yard individual medley. Mueller clocked in at a season-best 4:18.04 just over three seconds behind Aemisegger.

Events seven (200-yard butterfly) and eight (100-yard freestyle) featured more wins for the Maize and Blue. This time, it was Emily Christy's (Schwenksville, Pa./Spring Ford Area) time of 2:03.60 in the butterfly that earned her a win and Lindsey Smith garnered her second individual win of the day and fourth of the weekend as she narrowly missed an NCAA consideration time in the 100-yard freestyle (51.29). Hannah Smith (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) followed her sister Lindsey in the next race, taking first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:02.25).

The Wolverines once again went 2-3 in a distance event as Brunemann (2nd, 4:58.42) and Hanson (3rd, 4:58.77) touched the wall just after Aemisegger in the 500-yard freestyle.

Holding a commanding lead heading into the final two events, Michigan chose to swim exhibition in the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard freestyle relay. The Wolverines still posted the fastest time in both events, including the three fastest times in the 200-yard breaststroke. Mueller touched the wall before the rest of the field in the breaststroke event (2:19.88) and the foursome of Brady, Margaret Kelly (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), and Hannah and Lindsey Smith completed the day with the quickest time in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:33.94).

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, November 11.
