LOS ANGELES – In what can only be described as surprising timing, USC junior swimmer Jasmine Tosky has announced that she’s retired from swimming in a statement released today.<\/p>\n

The timing is definitely peculiar considering she didn’t stop swimming until midway through\u00a0the Pac 12 Women’s Championships this past weekend, and would have qualified for the NCAA Division I Women’s Championships this year.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Tosky concludes a strong career that also included being named the Swimming World<\/em> High School Co-Swimmer of the Year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

USC junior swimmer Jasmine Tosky, a five-time All-American and former U.S. national teamer, has decided to retire from swimming but remains enrolled in school and is on schedule to graduate in 2016.<\/p>\n

Said Tosky: “This was not a spontaneous decision and I understand it was not elegantly timed. I am very grateful that my coaches and teammates have supported me. I also want to thank USC and the entire Athletic Department. This decision was made completely separate from USC and I look forward to completing my degree in business administration next year. My time as a Trojan means the world to me. Fight on!”<\/p>\n

Said USC Head Coach Dave Salo: “During every athlete’s career, regardless of success realized or not, they will come to the decision to retire from the sport. Jasmine’s decision has been made during the process of training and competing each and every day over the past couple of years. We admire the courage it took for her to conclude that she was done with swimming during the Pac-12 Championships when her teammates and coaches were there to be supportive of her decision.<\/p>\n

“It is with the greatest respect that I appreciate Jasmine felt it was best for her and, maybe more importantly, for her team, that she should conclude her season now rather than later. There is no greater personal accountability from an athlete than when they decide on their terms when to retire. Jasmine is a proud Trojan and we are excited for her as she moves on in her life without collegiate swimming.”<\/p>\n

Tosky was a three-time All-American as a sophomore in 2014, a two-time All-American as a 2013 freshman and a five-time career Pac-12 finalist. She was a 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials finalist in the 200m IM and won gold at the 2011 FINA World Championships as part of the 800m free relay.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
