{"id":125140,"date":"2015-03-03T07:22:04","date_gmt":"2015-03-03T14:22:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=125140"},"modified":"2015-03-03T07:24:06","modified_gmt":"2015-03-03T14:24:06","slug":"federica-pellegrini-surpasses-usms-record-200-yard-back-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/federica-pellegrini-surpasses-usms-record-200-yard-back-florida\/","title":{"rendered":"Federica Pellegrini Surpasses USMS Record in 200 Yard Back in Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FORT LAUDERDALE &#8211; World-class swimmers Federica Pellegrini and Filippo Magnini, who are currently enjoying a training camp in Florida, decided to get in some short course yard Masters action this weekend at the Fort Lauderdale Masters Challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Pellegrini, 26, turned in a pair of sizzling times in the 100-yard free and 200-yard back. \u00a0Pellegrini posted a time lower than the 25-29 U.S. Masters Swimming national record in the 200-yard back with a 1:56.87. \u00a0That time is well under Justine Mueller&#8217;s 2013 record of 1:58.61.<\/p>\n<p>Pellegrini also clocked a time of 49.55 in the 100-yard free, just off Kim Vandenberg&#8217;s 2013 national record of 49.18.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Magnini put up a 43.69 in the 100-yard free.<\/p>\n<p>Pellegrini could be looking at the next stage of her career as the Olympic gold medalist is on record that she will retire from the sport at the 2016 Rio Olympics, which will likely be her fourth time on the big stage.<\/p>\n<p>Pellegrini would be a shoo-in as a <em>Swimming World<\/em> World Masters Swimmer of the Year if she continued on to those ranks after 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Pellegrini won the 200 freestyle gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics after taking silver in the same event at the 2004 Athens Olympics. \u00a0She also became the first woman to break the 4:00 barrier in the 400-meter freestyle with a 3:59.15. \u00a0That swim, however, came during the techsuit-fueled 2009 World Championships in Rome. \u00a0<a title=\"Katie Ledecky Smashes 400 Free World Record, Nearly Clears 3:58! (Pan Pacific Championships Results)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-ledecky-smashes-400-free-world-record-nearly-clears-358-pan-pacific-championships-results\/\" target=\"_blank\">Katie Ledecky has since managed to break that world record<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a
