For more information about Agon, visit their website\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.agonswim.com\/\">Agonswim.com<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>By Taylor Brien, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>LOUISVILLE&#8211;Covington Catholic&#8217;s Louis Hunt smashed a 16 year old diving record in Saturday&#8217;s Kentucky high school state championships.<\/p>\n<p>Sacred Heart Academy swept the competition on the girls side finishing the meet with a whopping 486 points. Notre Dame Academy finished second overall with 271, while duPont Manual claimed third with 152.<\/p>\n<p>Sacred Heart opened the meet with a record-breaking 200 medley relay. The team of Tonner DeBeer, Kennedy Lohman, Asia Seidt and Brooke Bauer broke their own record of 1:41.45 from last year with a 1:40.74. They finished a full five seconds ahead of the second place team.<\/p>\n<p>Notre Dame&#8217;s Sophie Skinner dashed to a new record in the 200 free. The freshman succeeded in lowering Abbie Fish&#8217;s 2008 record of 1:47.73 to a 1:47.61. Fish&#8217;s record was the oldest standing record on the girls side. Leah Stevens of Sacred Heart was close behind with a 1:48.34.<\/p>\n<p>Records continued falling as Grace Oglesby of North Oldham became the first girl to swim under 23 in the 50 free. The junior swam a 22.92 to replace Brooke Bauer&#8217;s 2014 state record of 23.14.<\/p>\n<p>Oglesby by success continued in the 100 fly as she succeeded in lowering her own 2014 record of 53.45. She first lowered it to a 52.14 in prelims before a posting a 51.75 finish in finals.<\/p>\n<p>Skinner also succeeded in taking down the second oldest record on the books, Krissie Brandenburg&#8217;s 100 free record of 50.26 from 2009. Skinner claimed gold with a 49.79 almost two seconds ahead of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>Sacred Heart&#8217;s Bauer, Lohman, Molly O&#8217;hara and Stevens swam to another new record in the 200 free relay finishing with a quick 1:34.46. Notre Dame (1:35.05) took second, while duPont Manual grabbed third with 1:36.87.<\/p>\n<p>Sacred Heart&#8217;s Kennedy Lohman succeeded in lowering her 2014 100 breaststroke record of 1:01.29 to 1:01.23. Madison Winstead of Paul Dunbar was close behind with a 1:01.65, while Notre Dame&#8217;s Madeleine Vonderhaar was third with 1:02.65.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#8217;s side it was St. Xavier who claimed gold with a grand total of 449.5 points. Covington Catholic were second with 335 and Louisville Collegiate claimed third with 152 points.<\/p>\n<p>The St. Xavier and Covington Catholic 200 medley relay teams dashed to a close record-breaking finish but it was the St. Xavier men who won out. JD Mundt, Keefer Barnum, Hayward Harrison and Matthew McDermott finished in 1:32.93 lowering St Xavier&#8217;s 2013 record of 1:33.26. Covington Catholic&#8217;s Brendan Meyer, Mike Summe, Robbie Newman and Evan McMillen touched close behind in 1:33.15.<\/p>\n<p>Ballard&#8217;s Branson Smith raced to a swift first place finish in the 50 free touching with a time of 21.18. St. Xavier&#8217;s Mundt (21.60) and McDermott (21.66) took second and third.<\/p>\n<p>Louis Hunt of Covington Catholic succeeded in breaking a 16 year record in the 1-meter diving. Hunt scored a whopping 569.40 to take down Phillip Jones 1999 record of 552.70.<\/p>\n<p>Nicolas Albiero of Christian Academy and Hayward Harrison of St. Xavier raced to a quick finish in the 100 fly but it was Albiero who won out.\u00a0After swimming almost evenly for the entire race Albiero managed to out-touch Harrison by .03 to finish with a 49.46.<\/p>\n<p>Covington Catholic and St. Xavier raced to another close finish in the 400 free relay to end the meet with record-breaking swims. Both teams managed to break Covington Catholic&#8217;s 2013 record of 3:06.59 but it was Covington Catholic&#8217;s Todd Sheets, Robbie Newman, Brendan Meyer and Mike Summe who won out touching in 3:05.72.
