{"id":124731,"date":"2015-02-27T11:09:01","date_gmt":"2015-02-27T18:09:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=124731"},"modified":"2015-02-27T11:09:01","modified_gmt":"2015-02-27T18:09:01","slug":"joseph-schooling-scorches-100-fly-during-big-12-prelims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/joseph-schooling-scorches-100-fly-during-big-12-prelims\/","title":{"rendered":"Joseph Schooling Scorches 100 Fly During Big 12 Prelims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AUSTIN &#8211; Texas continued to put up astonishing performances at the Big 12 Championships as Joseph Schooling threatened an 11-year-old school record in the 100-yard fly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s Meet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Joseph Schooling became only the second Longhorn ever to break the 45-second mark in the 100-yard fly with a 44.90 NCAA A cut this morning. \u00a0That&#8217;s just a bit off Ian Crocker&#8217;s school and Big 12 record of 44.72 that has stood since 2004.<\/p>\n<p>Texas&#8217; Will Glass (45.96) and Jack Conger (46.01) took second and third this morning.<\/p>\n<p>School&#8217;s time makes him eighth-fastest all time in the event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>All Time 100 Fly<\/strong><\/p>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/]<br \/>\n\n<p>Texas went 1-2-3-4-5 in the 200 free with Jake Ritter leading the way with a 1:34.97. Clay Youngquist (1:35.15), Clark Smith (1:35.22), PJ Dunne (1:35.46) and Sam Lewis (1:36.11) comprised the rest of that top-five effort.<\/p>\n<p>Texas&#8217; Austin Temple paced the 100-yard breast with a 52.94, while teammate Liam Lockwood took second in 53.76. \u00a0West Virginia&#8217;s Max Spencer snared third in 54.41.<\/p>\n<p>Will Licon turned in the top time in the 400-yard IM with a 3:42.87, while teammate John Martens (3:45.73) and Jared Butler (3:47.93) placed second and third.<\/p>\n<p>Jack Conger, <a title=\"Watch Jack Conger Break 200 Fly American Record (Race Video)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/watch-jack-conger-break-200-fly-american-record-race-video\/\" target=\"_blank\">who set an\u00a0American record in time trials of the 200 fly on day one<\/a>, cruised to the top time in the 100 back with a 46.56.<\/p>\n<p>Teammate Aaron Gustafson touched second in 46.73 with Andrew March of West Virginia qualifying third in 46.78.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s Meet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kansas&#8217;s Chelsie Miller put up the top time in the women&#8217;s 400-yard IM with a time of 4:11.44. \u00a0Texas&#8217; Madisyn Cox placed\u00a0just behind her with a second-place time of 4:11.78. \u00a0 Texas&#8217; Kaitlin Pawlowicz claimed third in 4:16.09.<\/p>\n<p>Texas&#8217; Brynne Wong turned in a time of 53.49 for the top women&#8217;s 100-yard fly effort this morning. \u00a0Kelsey Leneave took second in 54.02 with Kansas&#8217; Pia Pavlic rounding out the top three qualifiers with a 54.46.<\/p>\n<p>Texas&#8217; Sammie Hashbarger topped the 200-yard free prelims with a 1:49.95, while TCU&#8217;s Mikayla Winkler claimed second in 1:50.09. \u00a0Kansas&#8217; Sammie Schurig touched third in 1:50.29.<\/p>\n<p>Texas&#8217; Gretchen Jaques scorched prelims in the 100-yard breast with a top time of 59.04. \u00a0That&#8217;s an NCAA A cut already this morning.<\/p>\n<p>Skylar Smith placed second in prelims with a 1:01.42, while West Virginia&#8217;s Jenelle Zee placed third with a 1:01.50.<\/p>\n<p>Texas&#8217; Tasija Karosas put up a 52.54 for the top time in the women&#8217;s 100-yard back. \u00a0Kansas&#8217; Yulduz Kuchkaro touched second in 53.77 with Rebecca Baxley of Texas placing third in 54.26.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/2015-big-12-championships-live-results\/ncaa-college\/2015\/February\/25\" target=\"_blank\">2015 Big 12 Championships, Live Results &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AUSTIN &#8211; Texas continued to put up astonishing performances at the Big 12 Championships as Joseph Schooling threatened an 11-year-old school record in the 100-yard fly.
