﻿{"id":124677,"date":"2015-02-27T07:14:49","date_gmt":"2015-02-27T14:14:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=124677"},"modified":"2015-02-27T07:14:49","modified_gmt":"2015-02-27T14:14:49","slug":"nau-women-air-force-men-front-wac-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nau-women-air-force-men-front-wac-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"NAU Women, Air Force Men Out Front at WAC Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN ANTONIO &#8211; New Mexico State\u2019s Amina Gummesson opened the second day of the WAC Championships with a win in the women\u2019s 500 freestyle (4:50.94).<\/p>\n<p>Bakersfield\u2019s Mitchell Huxhold held on to his WAC title in the men\u2019s 500 winning it with a time of 4:17.37, also an NCAA \u201cB\u201d qualifying time.<\/p>\n<p>After taking second place last year, Grand Canyon\u2019s Hannah Kastigar made a comeback in the 200 IM taking first in the event with an NCAA \u201cB\u201d qualifying time of 1:59.11.\u00a0 Teammate, Iegor Lytvenok followed her success winning the men\u2019s event after breaking his own pool record, WAC record and WAC meet record with an NCAA \u201cB\u201d qualifying time of 1:44.29.<\/p>\n<p>In the 50 freestyle, North Dakota\u2019s Courtney Funk won with a time of 22.85 which also qualifies as an NCAA \u201cB\u201d cut.\u00a0 UNLV\u2019s Dillon Virva, defending champion in the men\u2019s 50 freestyle, qualified for an NCAA \u201cA\u201d time of 19.17.\u00a0 Virva was also the second leg of UNLV\u2019s victorious 200 free relay.\u00a0 Their time of 1:17.44 was not only an NCAA \u201cA\u201d time but set a new pool and WAC meet record.<\/p>\n<p>North Dakota\u2019s women edged out a win in the 200 free relay over Bakersfield with a time of 1:32.86.<\/p>\n<p>On the boards, Northern Arizona\u2019s Chelsea Jackson won the women\u2019s 3 meter (308.95).\u00a0 Nate Zillweger held on to his 1 meter diving title scoring a best of 323.85.<\/p>\n<p>Heading into day three, Northern Arizona leads the women and Air Force leads the men\u2019s teams.<\/p>\n<p><em>The above article is a press release submitted to Swimming World.
