{"id":124647,"date":"2015-02-26T19:02:16","date_gmt":"2015-02-27T02:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=124647"},"modified":"2015-02-26T19:02:16","modified_gmt":"2015-02-27T02:02:16","slug":"towson-women-william-mary-men-still-lead-caas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/towson-women-william-mary-men-still-lead-caas\/","title":{"rendered":"Towson Women, William &#038; Mary Men Still Lead at CAAs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>RICHMOND \u2013 The 2015 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Swimming Championship continued on Thursday and for the second consecutive day, the Towson Tiger women and the William &amp; Mary Tribe men stayed at the top of the respective team standings.<\/p>\n<p>The Day 2 Finals from the Collegiate School Aquatics Center in Richmond, Va., included the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 500-Yard Free, the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 200-Yard IM and the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 50-Yard Free. The last events taking place this evening were the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 200-Yard Free Relays.<\/p>\n<p>Towson\u2019s Macey Arnold opened up the first race with a victory in the women\u2019s 500 free, clocking a time of 4:46.51. Fellow Tiger Liz Saint followed in second place (4:50.86) to grab 17 more points for TU, while James Madison\u2019s Cameron Martin rounded out the top three with a time of 4:52.14.<\/p>\n<p>On the men\u2019s side, it was Delaware sophomore Cory Camp whom pulled ahead late to stake a first-place finish for the 500 free. Camp touched the wall first in 4:24.05, and a pair of Tigers, Matt Lowe and Matt McKenney, followed in the second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The lady Tigers continued to stay sharp in the next event, the 200-IM, as Charlotte Holz finished ahead of the pack in 1:59.40. Tribe sophomore Allie Christy impressed in second with a time of 2:00.98, followed by Northeastern stud senior Anna Schegoleva, who touched the wall for third place in 2:01.00.<\/p>\n<p>William &amp; Mary wasted little time to pick up some big points in the men\u2019s 200-IM. Junior Jeremiah O\u2019Donnell led a perfect Tribe sweep in the top three spots in impressive fashion, setting a new meet record with a time of 1:46.38. Teammates Will Manion (1:47.44) and Alex Oca de Montes (1:48.27) followed closely in second and third, respectively, to provide 33 more team points.<\/p>\n<p>Delaware junior Morgan Whyte helped the \u2018Hens earn 20 points with a first-place finish in the women\u2019s 50-free (22.59). Tribe sophomore Jaimie Miller, last year\u2019s CAA Women\u2019s Rookie Swimmer of the Year, finished second in 22.79 and Towson\u2019s Amanda Barber, as well as William &amp; Mary\u2019s Megan Howard, placed third with identical times of 22.91.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s 50 free, Drexel\u2019s Joel Berryman claimed the top spot with a time of 20.11, while CofC\u2019s Alex Wood (20.41) and William &amp; Mary\u2019s Billy Russell (20.51) followed in order.<\/p>\n<p>William &amp; Mary\u2019s relay team of Jaimie Miller, Megan Howard, Abby Mack and Sara Schad helped the Tribe garner 40 points with a solid victory in the final event of the night, the 200 free relay, clocking a time of 1:31.83. Delaware (1:31.86) and James Madison (1:32.25) placed second and third.<\/p>\n<p>Last but not least, the men\u2019s 200 free relay had a photo finish to remember. Drexel\u2019s Joel Berryman, Sean Swartz, Alex Chialastri and Mike Shaeffer led the way with the top finish in 1:21.25, just edging out Delaware and William &amp; Mary, both of which tied for second with a time of 1:21.27.<\/p>\n<p>Last weekend, the 2015 CAA Diving Championship took place at the University of Delaware. This was the first year that diving and swimming were separated, though the scoring and relevance of both events still remains the same as in years past. Following tonight\u2019s 50 freestyle events, the points earned in the 1-Meter events &#8211; for both the women and men &#8211; were tallied into the team point totals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women\u2019s Team Scores \u2013 Day 2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.
