{"id":124523,"date":"2015-02-26T10:32:41","date_gmt":"2015-02-26T17:32:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=124523"},"modified":"2015-02-26T10:32:41","modified_gmt":"2015-02-26T17:32:41","slug":"will-licon-sets-meet-record-during-prelims-at-big-12s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/will-licon-sets-meet-record-during-prelims-at-big-12s\/","title":{"rendered":"Will Licon Sets Meet Record During Prelims at Big 12s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AUSTIN &#8211; Will Licon set a meet record during prelims of the Big 12 Championships this morning as Texas continued to roll.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s Meet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>500 free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Texas&#8217; Kaitlin Pawlowicz hit the wall in 4:43.90 to easily post the top time of the morning, while teammate Kelsey Leneave claimed second overall in 4:45.28.<\/p>\n<p>Texas also claimed two other A final times with Sammie Hashbarger (4:52.37) and Smacker Miles (4:53.00) placing fifth and sixth.<\/p>\n<p>The top non-Longhorn swim came by way of Emma Skelley with a third-place 4:50.11.<\/p>\n<p><strong>200 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Madisyn Cox topped the event for Texas with a 1:56.16, that nearly put her in the top 10 all time at Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Skylar Smith took second for Texas with a 1:59.27, while Jordan Surhoff (1:59.51) and Tasija Karosas (1:59.70) also made it into the A final for Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Iowa State&#8217;s Kasey Roberts was the top non-Texas swimmer with a fifth-place 2:00.29.<\/p>\n<p><strong>50 free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Texas went 1-2 in the women&#8217;s splash-and-dash as Gretchen Jaques touched in 22.48. \u00a0Rebecca Millard placed second in 22.74.<\/p>\n<p>TCU&#8217;s Julia Sanders (22.85) claimed third in 22.85 with Texas&#8217; Brynne Wong earning fourth in 22.94.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s Meet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>500 free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Texas&#8217; Clark Smith, already with a 4:13 this year from the Texas Invite to secure his NCAA A cut, cruised to the top seed in 4:16.71.<\/p>\n<p>The top four A final spots all went to Longhorns with Sam Lewis (4:18.17), Jonathan Roberts (4:18.71) and Jake Ritters (4:19.56) making it back to the big final tonight.<\/p>\n<p>Nic Munoz (4:21.15) and PJ Dunne (4:24.17) were part of the Texas B team just swimming for their NCAA B cuts, but are not eligible for the A final.<\/p>\n<p>TCU&#8217;s Thor Stenfjord, who took eight with a 4:24.83, was the top non-Texas swimmer of the morning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>200 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Texas&#8217; Will Licon posted a meet record in the 200-yard IM with a 1:43.20 this morning. \u00a0That broke Austin Surhoff&#8217;s previous meet mark of 1:43.26 from back in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Joseph Schooling (1:44.42) and John Martens (1:46.58) went 2-3 for Texas, while Texas B teamer Jared Butler took fourth in 1:46.85.<\/p>\n<p>Nate Carr of West Virginia was the top non-Texas swimmer with a fifth-place 1:46.99.<\/p>\n<p><strong>50 free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>West Virginia&#8217;s Tim Squires stopped the complete Texas steamroll with a 19.50 to lead qualifying in the 50 free.<\/p>\n<p>Texas&#8217; Tripp Cooper (19.72), John Murray (19.75) and Brett Ringgold (19.89) all broke 20 seconds to place\u00a02-3-4 this morning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/2015-big-12-championships-live-results\/ncaa-college\/2015\/February\/25\" target=\"_blank\">2015 Big 12 Championships, Live Results &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AUSTIN &#8211; Will Licon set a meet record during prelims of the Big 12 Championships this morning as Texas continued to roll.
