IOWA CITY – The Michigan Wolverines powered their way to a pair of pool records during night one of the Big Ten Men’s Championships in Iowa City.<\/p>\n

Michigan’s Aaron Whitaker (21.55), Bruno Ortiz (22.77), Jeremy Raisky (20.15) and Paul Powers (19.00) clocked the fastest time in the nation with a scorching 1:23.47 in the 200-yard medley relay to start the night.<\/p>\n

Ortiz’s breaststroke leg was particularly impressive seeing as he went out in 9.98.<\/p>\n

Ohio State’s Steven Zimmerman (21.66), DJ MacDonald (23.98), Matt McHugh (20.38) and Josh Fleagle (19.16) turned in a second-place time of 1:25.18.<\/p>\n

Iowa’s Grant Betulius (21.59), Roman Trussov (23.84), Jerzy Twaroski (20.78) and Jackson Halsmer (19.32) checked in with a third-place time of 1:25.53 for an NCAA A cut of their own.<\/p>\n

The top three times all cleared the pool record of 1:25.55 set by Michigan back in 2012.<\/p>\n

Penn State was disqualified after finishing fourth overall. PSU would later time trial its way to a 1:25.48 to still make the NCAA A cut.<\/p>\n

Michigan’s Justin Glanda (1:34.22), Anders Nielsen (1:32.19), Jack Mangan (1:33.46) and Dylan Bosch (1:32.33) crushed the men’s 800-yard free relay with a pool-record 6:12.20. That performance smashed the previous mark of 6:16.26 set by Michigan in 2012.<\/p>\n

Wisconsin’s Cannon Clifton (1:34.82), Matt Hutchins (1:34.16), Brett Pinfold (1:34.19) and Nicholas Caldwell (1:33.13) claimed second in 6:16.30.<\/p>\n

Indiana’s Blake Pieroni (1:33.10), Anze Tavcar (1:35.16), Jackson Miller (1:34.13) and Steve Schmuhl (1:34.43) finished third in 6:16.82.<\/p>\n

Ohio State also beat the NCAA A cut with a fourth-place time of 6:22.65.<\/p>\n
