BOTHELL, Washington, November 4. SENIOR Kristie Rice (Des Moines, Wash.) won three races while fellow senior Lindsey Gall (Chehalis, Wash.) and sophomore Sarah Shannon (Issaquah, Wash.) won two individual races each to lead the Seattle University women's swim team to a 173-77 victory over Alaska-Fairbanks Saturday morning at the Northshore Pool. <\/p>\n
Rice earned victories in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.76), the 200 breaststroke (2:29.94), and the 400 individual medley (4:45.09). She also swam the second leg of the 400 medley relay, and along with teammates Francesca Reale (Gig Harbor, Wash.), Shannon, and Gall, won the opening event of the meet in a time of 4:11.48. <\/p>\n
Shannon outtouched Reale by 2\/100ths of a second to win the 100 backstroke (1:03.34), then earned a victory over Elizabeth Hanohano (Honolulu, Hawaii) in the 100 freestyle in a time of 55.79 seconds, just 25\/100ths of a second quicker than Hanohano. <\/p>\n
Gall won the 50 freestyle for the second time in a span of about 13 hours, this time finishing in 25.33 seconds. She followed that up with her second consecutive victory in the 100 butterfly in a time of 59.76. Besides being the last two swimmers in the winning 400 medley relay team, Shannon and Gall were the anchors of the 400 freestyle relay team that won the final event of the meet in a time of 3:45.41. <\/p>\n
Alex Weiss (Reno, Nev.) won the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:12.73 and finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.55. Christina Hunsberger (Bellevue, Wash.) finished second in both distance events of the morning, swimming the 1650 freestyle in a time of 18:26.75, then returning to swim the 500 freestyle in 5:18.35. <\/p>\n
Kelly Becker was the top swimmer for Alaska-Fairbanks, earning first place honors in the 200 freestyle (1:57.99), the 200 butterfly (2:08.24), and the 500 freestyle (5:14.61).
