CARY – The women’s 200-yard breaststroke championship final at the North Carolina Senior State Championships featured a pair of record-breaking swims. \u00a0Marlins of Raleigh’s Ashley McCauley, 14, and Abby Arens, 12, took down their respective state age group records in the event.<\/p>\n

McCauley won the state title on the club circuit in the 200 breast with a time if 2:15.06. That swim clipped the 2013 record of 2:15.72 set by Jane Donahue.<\/p>\n

McCauley also placed ninth in the 200 fly (2:05.56) and 200 IM (2:04.83).<\/p>\n

Arens, who turned in a fifth-place time of 2:22.22 in the finale, cleared the previous record of 2:23.71 set by U.S. National Team member Kathleen Baker back in 2010.<\/p>\n

Arens also went on to take third in the 100 breast (1:04.11). That swim broke McCauley’s 11-12 state record of 1:05.05 set back in 2013.<\/p>\n

Thanks to top-level swimmers like McCauley and Arens, Marlins of Raleigh went on to win the combined team score by a wide margin with 1,996.5 points against East Carolina’s second-place 641.<\/p>\n
