TEMPE, Ariz.- Misty Hyman, selected last year as Swimming World’s “High School Swimmer of the Year,” turned in what is arguably the greatest one-day performance in the history of girls’ high school swimming on Saturday at the Arizona State School 5A Championships. <\/p>\n
The Shadow Mountain High School senior, the most highly recruited prep swimmer in the country, set three national high school records: two individual and one relay. <\/p>\n
Hyman began the day by swimming the lead-off backstroke leg on the Shadow Mountain 200 yard medley relay team in a stunning 25.20 seconds. Along with April Osback, Jana Krohn, and Jaime Krohn, they broke the national record with a time of 1:45.18. <\/p>\n
Hyman also broke her own record this year with a 52.41 in the 100 yard butterfly. She swam the fifth-fastest time in history behind Crissy Ahmann’s American record of 51.75, set at the 1992 NCAA’s. <\/p>\n
In a surprise, Hyman then shattered the national high school record in the 100 yard backstroke. Her time of 53.68, broke the 53.85 standard set last May by Denali Knapp of Davis (CA) High School. <\/p>\n
In her final high school swim, Hyman split a 49.91 on the anchor leg of Shadow Mountain’s 400 yard freestyle relay team. Her swim boosted her team to a state record 3:26.99.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
