Robinson Secondary was right in the mix as well, eventually taking third with 187 points. Meanwhile, the Oakton boys won convincingly, scoring 293 points to Robinson Secondary’s 231. Langley finished third with 196 points.

Oakton got the meet off to a record-breaking start as the foursome of John Shebat, Michael Pettinichi, Drew Weber and Mason Hawkins swam a 1:33.75 in the boys’ 200 medley relay to take .11 off the meet record of 1:33.86. In the girls’ medley relay, Chantilly’s Lauren Hensley, Jacquee Clabeaux, Lea Gwennap and Christina Peters set a new meet record with their 1:44.51, well under Oakton’s 1:45.23 from last year.

Several swimmers emerged from the meet with two individual state titles, including Robinson Secondary’s James Murphy, who out-raced the field in the 200 free (1:38.29) and 500 free (4:27.20) and set meet records in both. Murphy’s teammate, James Jones, dominated the sprint freestyle events, winning the 50 free by nearly a second in 20.19 and the 100 free by more than two seconds in 44.45 to give Robinson Secondary a sweep of the freestyle events and four new meet records. Oakton senior John Shebat closed out his high school career on a high note with two new meet records and impressive wins in the 200 IM (1:46.36) and 100 back (47.46).

West Potomac freshman Cassidy Bayer got her high school career off to a great start, winning the 200 IM in a meet record of 1:59.19 and the 100 fly in 53.67. Oakton’s Megan Byrnes also won two state titles, topping in the 200 free in a meet record of 1:48.61 and then out-touching Langley’s Isabella Rongione for the 500 free win, 4:43.43 to 4:43.61. Both times were under Rongione’s meet record of 4:44.69 from last year. Yorktown’s Suzanne Dolan contributed two wins in the 50 free (22.81) and 100 breast (1:02.48) and set a new meet record in the latter event.

Robinson Secondary’s Hannah Baker (100 free, 50.37), Oakton’s girls’ 200 free relay (1:35.53), Herndon’s Emily Meilus (100 back, 55.08) and South County’s Maggie Pionzio (1-meter diving, 441.30) also set meet records. James Madison’s Grayson Campbell (1-meter diving, 570.90), Oakton’s boys’ 200 free relay (1:23.26) and Oakton’s boys’ 400 free relay (3:06.04) established new meet records on the boys’ side.

Virginia 6A Swimming and Diving Championships – Results

Submit Your All-America Application

Agon is the proud sponsor of all high school coverage (recruiting, results, state championships, etc.) on SwimmingWorld.com.
