{"id":123792,"date":"2015-02-20T11:03:16","date_gmt":"2015-02-20T18:03:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=123792"},"modified":"2015-02-20T11:03:16","modified_gmt":"2015-02-20T18:03:16","slug":"ivy-martin-just-misses-a-cut-in-100-fly-in-big-ten-prelims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ivy-martin-just-misses-a-cut-in-100-fly-in-big-ten-prelims\/","title":{"rendered":"Ivy Martin Just Misses A Cut in 100 Fly in Big Ten Prelims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COLUMBUS &#8211; Friday morning proved to be a big day for team points\u00a0at the Big Ten Women&#8217;s Championships. \u00a0Meanwhile, Wisconsin&#8217;s Ivy Martin nearly collected an A cut in the 100-yard fly.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota freshman Brooke Zeiger put up the fastest time in the morning by far in the 400-yard IM. \u00a0She clocked a 4:08.34, a few seconds off her seed time of 4:06.63, but well ahead of Ohio State&#8217;s Lindsey Clary (4:10.12).<\/p>\n<p>Indiana and Minnesota, however, each picked up a pair of A finalists with Samantha Harding joining Zeiger with an eighth-place 4:14.22. \u00a0IU&#8217;s Dorina Szekeres (4:11.14) and Samantha Lisy (4:13.11) placed third and sixth.<\/p>\n<p>Martin followed her <a title=\"Ivy Martin\u2019s Speed Stuns Big Ten Crowd, Minnesota 2nd After Day 2\" href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ivy-martins-speed-stuns-big-ten-crowd-minnesota-2nd-after-day-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">epic night of sprinting last night in the 50 free<\/a> with a 51.76 to top the 100-yard fly qualifying this morning. She will be joined by teammate Dana Grindall (52.91) in the finale.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota, however, clinched three A final spots as Rebecca Weiland (52.49), Tori Simenec (52.79) and Danielle Nack (53.09) all made the A final.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana followed its strong 500-yard freestyle 1-2 from last night with another 1-2 in the 200 free this morning. \u00a0Kennedy Goss (1:45.16) and Haley Lips (1:45.19) took the top two spots.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan and Purdue also qualified a pair of swimmers into the A final. \u00a0Gillian Ryan (1:46.10) and Claudia Goswell (1:46.15) made it for Michigan, while Rhi Sheets (1:46.29) and Abby Jagdfeld (1:46.49) also snared transfer spots for Purdue.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota&#8217;s Kierra Smith clinched the top seed in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 59.55, the only sub-1:00 time of the morning. \u00a0Ohio State&#8217;s Rachael Dzierzak (1:00.27) and Iowa&#8217;s Emma Sougstad (1:00.29) checked in second and third.<\/p>\n<p>The hosting Buckeyes were the only team to get two into the A final with Dzierzak and Ashley Vance (1:00.95) both qualifying.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan had a pretty strong 100-yard back preliminary session with Clara Smiddy (52.01) and Ali DeLoof (52.78) going 1-3 in qualifying.<\/p>\n<p>But, the Indiana Hoosiers crushed it in the event with four making the A final. Brooklynn Snodgrass (52.28), Marie Chamberlain (52.95), Justine Ress (52.96) and Allie Day (53.26) all making the championship heat.<\/p>\n<p>Ali Rockett (53.90) and Cynthia Pammett (53.96) even made the B final for what will be a key event for IU.<\/p>\n<p>Three-meter diving finals take place after the session.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a
