{"id":123741,"date":"2015-02-19T18:52:59","date_gmt":"2015-02-20T01:52:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=123741"},"modified":"2015-02-19T18:52:59","modified_gmt":"2015-02-20T01:52:59","slug":"ivy-martins-speed-stuns-big-ten-crowd-minnesota-2nd-after-day-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ivy-martins-speed-stuns-big-ten-crowd-minnesota-2nd-after-day-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Ivy Martin&#8217;s Speed Stuns Big Ten Crowd, Minnesota 2nd After Day 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COLUMBUS &#8211; Wisconsin&#8217;s Ivy Martin certainly had the chance to show off her sizzling speed in an individual and relay event tonight. \u00a0Meanwhile, Minnesota held the lead after day two with 232.5 points.<\/p>\n<p>Wisconsin clipped the Big Ten record in the 200-yard free relay to kick off the night.<\/p>\n<p>Chase Kinney (22.49), Ivy Martin <strong>(20.96)<\/strong>, Aja Van Hout (22.07) and Annie Tamblyn (22.18) rocketed to victory in 1:27.70. \u00a0That effort cleared the previous conference record of 1:27.76 set by Wisconsin last year at NCAAs.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Wisconsin&#8217;s time obliterated the meet record of 1:28.43 clocked by Minnesota back in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Penn State&#8217;s Alyson Ackman (22.47), Carolyn Fittin (21.66), Kaitlin Saloky (22.27) and Katelyn Miller (22.10) placed second in 1:28.50, while Minnesota&#8217;s Rebecca Weiland (21.88), Lauren Votava (22.49), Danielle Nack (22.40) and Blake Zeiger (22.55) rounded out the top three in 1:29.32.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio State also picked up an NCAA A cut with a 1:29.41 for fourth overall.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana countered with a strong 500-yard free as freshman Kennedy Goss captured the Big Ten title with a 4:37.83. Junior teammate Haley Lips placed second overall in 4:38.27. That&#8217;s IU&#8217;s third-straight victory in the event.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan&#8217;s Gillian Ryan, another freshman, raced her way to third overall in 4:39.86 as she closed HARD with a 25.85 final split.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan freshman Clara Smiddy turned in a 1:56.74 to top the 200-yard IM tonight, while Ohio State&#8217;s Ashley Vance placed second in 1:57.26. Michigan&#8217;s Marni Oldershaw closed out the rest of the top three with a time of 1:58.14.<\/p>\n<p>After tying Lara Jackson&#8217;s 2008 pool record of 21.69 this morning during prelims and her scorcher of a 20.96 split in the 200 free relay, Wisconsin&#8217;s Martin blazed her way to a 21.65 to win the 50 free finale.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s her second pool record of the day, and just missed her Big Ten record of 21.58 set at last year&#8217;s conference championships.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota&#8217;s Rebecca Weiland and Ohio State freshman Li Zhesi tied for second overall with 22.13s.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota closed out the night with a strong diving event as Zhou Yu won with 365 points. \u00a0Teammate Katy Etterman took second with 333.80 points, while Jessica Ramberg snared eighth for Minnesota with 289.30 points. \u00a0Nebraska&#8217;s Anna Filipcic closed out the top three with 329.50 points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Team Scores<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[table \u201c\u201d not found
