For more information about Agon, visit their website <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agonswim.com\">Agonswim.com<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nCARY \u2013 The Raleigh Charter School girls swimming and diving team won their fifth straight team title, while the Carrboro High School and Shelby High School boys teams tied for the team championship Friday night at the North Carolina 1A-2A State Swimming and Diving Championships at the Triangle Aquatic Center. <\/p>\n<p>Raleigh Charter scored 284 points to top Mooresville Pine Lake Prep (222 points) and Lincoln Charter (206 points). The boys meet ended in a tie for first and third in the team standings, with Carrboro and Shelby each scoring 249 points and North Carolina School of Science and Math and Lincoln Charter recording 179 points each. <\/p>\n<p>The meet got off to an exciting start as three teams \u2013 Raleigh Charter, Lincoln Charter and Pine Lake Prep \u2013 battled for the title in the girls\u2019 200 medley relay. At the finish, Raleigh Charter held onto their top seed position as Lilly Whalen, Sydney Parsons, Tara Martin and Sandy Lackmann out-touched Lincoln Charter\u2019s Shelby Smith, Kyndall Morrow, Sophia Bhalla and Christina Lappin, 1:51.32 to 1:51.38. Pine Lake Prep was in the hunt as well, with Lindsey Allison, Alyssa Marsh, Olivia Rasbornik and KK Rasbornik taking third in 1:51.40. <\/p>\n<p>In the boys\u2019 medley relay, Carrboro\u2019s foursome of Will MacMillan, Simon Deshusses, Thomas Bilden and Connor Murphy led a group of four teams that swam under the previous 1A-2A state record of 1:38.52. Carrboro touched first in 1:35.00 to chop three and a half seconds off the mark, followed by Shelby\u2019s Parker Campbell, Ben Waldrep, Davis Kennedy and Matt Campbell in 1:36.32. Raleigh Charter\u2019s Zach Lewis, William Oakley, Nahusha Rao and Christian Lam came in third with a 1:37.64. <\/p>\n<p>First Flight\u2019s Sarah Mandis topped the girls\u2019 200 free final in 1:55.75, slightly off her prelim time but still about half a second in front of Bishop McGuinness\u2019 Natalie Hamlet (1:56.24). Lake Norman Charter\u2019s Carole Fish dropped a second from prelims to finish third in 1:57.71. <\/p>\n<p>Carrboro kept the ball rolling in the boys\u2019 200 free final with its second 1A-2A state record in as many events. Will MacMillan swam a 1:38.85 to knock off Matt Long\u2019s record of 1:40.96 from 2012. Tarboro\u2019s Cameron Anderson, the top qualifier from prelims, dropped a second and finished second in 1:41.29, while Shelby\u2019s Parker Campbell wrapped up third in 1:42.57. <\/p>\n<p>Christ the King\u2019s Jane Donahue took advantage of the disqualification of state record-holder Olivia Ontjes of Raleigh Charter in prelims of the 200 IM, dropping six seconds from her prelim time and winning finals in 2:05.07. Carrboro\u2019s Mia Morrell finished two seconds back in 2:07.07, while East Surry\u2019s Kelsey Tunstall came in third at 2:08.77. <\/p>\n<p>Lincoln Charter\u2019s Taylor Powell topped the boys\u2019 200 IM final in a close race with Carrboro\u2019s Simon Deshusses. Powell got to the wall first in 1:56.85, with Deshusses only .16 behind in 1:57.01. Mount Pleasant\u2019s Danny Dilks wrapped up third in 1:57.96. <\/p>\n<p>Pine Lake Prep\u2019s Alyssa Marsh cut more than four tenths off the 1A-2A state record in the girls\u2019 50 free final, sprinting to a 23.05 to knock Lincoln Charter\u2019s Christina Lappin (23.46) out of the record books. Raleigh Charter\u2019s Tara Martin picked up second in 23.69, followed by Lappin in 23.98. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the boys\u2019 50 free final came down to the final inches, as Raleigh Charter\u2019s Zach Lewis edged Goldsboro\u2019s Zach Darden by just one one-hundredth, 21.50 to 21.51. West Davidson\u2019s Alex Vander Linden dropped a chunk from prelims to take third in 21.66.<\/p>\n<p>Alyssa Marsh of Pine Lake Prep earned her second state title of the day in the 100 fly, just missing her own state and 1A-2A record of 53.72 with a 54.08. Raleigh Charter\u2019s Tara Martin finished in the runner-up spot for a second straight event, touching in 55.76. Lexi Souther of Parkwood claimed third in 55.93. <\/p>\n<p>In the boys\u2019 100 fly, Carrboro\u2019s Thomas Bilden became the first 1A-2A swimmer under 50 seconds with a new classification record of 49.92. Bilden lowered his own record of 51.22, which he set in prelims. Goldsboro\u2019s Zach Darden nearly joined him under 50 but came up just shy with a second place effort of 50.59. Bishop McGuinness\u2019 Alex Strasser came in third with a 51.36. <\/p>\n<p>Lincoln Charter\u2019s Christina Lappin was the class of the field in the girls\u2019 100 free, dropping a 51.80 to top Thomas Jefferson Classical\u2019s Madelyn Martelle (52.92) and Shelby\u2019s Annie Shirk (53.34).<\/p>\n<p>Carrboro\u2019s Will MacMillan won his second state title of the day in the 100 free, nearly taking down Joe Bonk\u2019s 1A-2A record in the process. MacMillan stopped the clock at 45.59, just .47 off Bonk\u2019s record of 45.12. Zach Lewis of Raleigh Charter finished on the podium again with a 46.68, while Lincoln Charter\u2019s Mitchell Harwood claimed third in 46.99. <\/p>\n<p>In the timed final 500 free, First Flight\u2019s Sarah Mandis cruised to a five second victory over Trinity\u2019s Morgan Davis, 5:12.82 to 5:17.58. River Mill Academy\u2019s Ann Carr also broke 5:20, taking third in 5:18.02. <\/p>\n<p>After setting a 1A-2A record in the 100 fly two events earlier, Carrboro\u2019s Thomas Bilden returned to the pool to win the boys\u2019 500 free title as well in 4:43.92. Bilden had plenty of cushion, as First Flight\u2019s Hunter Crook came in four and a half seconds later at 4:48.45. Salisbury\u2019s Ethan Knorr touched right behind in 4:48.67. <\/p>\n<p>The Raleigh Charter girls earned their second relay win of the meet in the 200 free relay as Tara Martin, Paige Whalen, Lilly Whalen and Olivia Ontjes stopped the clock at 1:37.69, just off the 1A-2A record of 1:37.53. Pine Lake Prep\u2019s KK Rasbornik, Maddie Marsh, Lindsey Allison and Alyssa Marsh finished four seconds behind in 1:41.61, followed by Lincoln Charter\u2019s Elizabeth Walter, Taylor Harkey, Kyndall Morrow and Sophia Bhalla in 1:42.86. <\/p>\n<p>Alex Strasser, Jeffrey Davidson, Matthew Hamlet and Bryan Soltis led the Bishop McGuinness boys to a state title in the 200 free relay with a final time of 1:28.19. Raleigh Charter\u2019s quartet of Zach Lewis, William Oakley, Nahusha Rao and Christian Lam finished a solid second in 1:29.07, followed by Lake Norman Charter\u2019s Sean Powers, Corrin Rothwell, Padgett Powe and John Creel in 1:30.60.<\/p>\n<p>Parkwood\u2019s Lexi Souther lowered the 1A-2A mark in the girls\u2019 100 back final, slicing .03 off Alyssa Marsh\u2019s record of 54.86 with a 54.83. Thomas Jefferson Classical\u2019s Madelyn Martelle dropped four and a half seconds from prelims to take second in 56.66, ahead of Salisbury\u2019s Kathryn Morrison in third (58.39). <\/p>\n<p>In the boys\u2019 100 back final, Shelby\u2019s Parker Campbell dropped his own 1A-2A record from last year, taking more than a second off his 51.45 with a 50.21. Kevin Andrews of Washington finished a distant third in 53.52 while Davis Kennedy gave Shelby a 1-3 finish with his 54.43 for third. <\/p>\n<p>Raleigh Charter\u2019s Olivia Ontjes followed suit in the girls\u2019 100 breast final, lowering her own 1A-2A record from 1:02.73 to 1:02.64. Christ the King\u2019s Jane Donahue wrapped up second in 1:04.90, well ahead of North Carolina Science and Math\u2019s Caroline Liu (1:07.89). <\/p>\n<p>Three boys broke the 1A-2A record in the boys\u2019 100 breast, led by Tarboro\u2019s Cameron Anderson. Anderson touched in 57.56 to take a full second and a half off Drew Queen\u2019s 2014 record of 59.08. Carrboro\u2019s Simon Deshusses (58.72) and Mount Pleasant\u2019s Danny Dilks (58.74) were also under the previous record. <\/p>\n<p>Lincoln Charter posted a two second victory in the 400 free relay to wrap up the girls\u2019 meet, with Sophia Bhalla, Kyndall Morrow, Taylor Harkey and Christina Lappin putting up a 3:39.55. Sydney Willis, Sandy Lackmann, Paige Whalen and Olivia Ontjes gave Raleigh Charter a second place showing with their 3:41.56, while Lake Norman Charter\u2019s Sydney Carte, Kara Jones, Ellen Robertson and Carole Fish came in third (3:50.48). <\/p>\n<p>In the boys\u2019 relay, Carrboro broke their own classification record of 3:13.49 from 2012, with Simon Deshusses, Justin Laatz, Thomas Bilden and Will MacMillan touching in 3:13.15. Dillon Carey, Reece Hodges, Taylor Powell and Mitchell Harwood led Lincoln Charter to second in 3:15.57.
