THE University of Denver swimming and diving teams went a combined 7-1 in a five-team dual meet competition Friday night at El Pomar Natatorium, with the Pioneer women&#39;s team earning a perfect 3-0 mark and the men&#39;s squad going 4-1 in competition against Air Force, Colorado School of Mines, Metro State College of Denver and Colorado College. DU&#39;s lone loss was to Air Force. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;I was proud of how we raced today,&quot; head coach Brian Schrader said. &quot;I thought we responded well and we&#39;re getting better as we move along which is a good sign.&quot; <\/p>\n<p>DU women swimmers won seven events, including a pair of relay wins. The women opened the meet with a victory by their `A&#39; relay team in the 200-yard medley with a time of 1:49.79 and won a second relay in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:41.01. Freshman Olivia Dean (Aurora, Colo.) captured the 200-yard freestyle for DU&#39;s first individual win of the day and finished second in the 100-yard backstroke later in the meet. Junior Kelsey Totura (Castle Rock, Colo.) was dominant for the Pioneers in the short freestyle events, winning the 50-free with a time of 24.51 and also capturing the 100-free at 52.93. <\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Michele Lowery (Hailey, Idaho) captured the 500-freestyle with a time of 5:13.24 and was followed closely by senior Harmony Zeller (Arvada, Colo.) at 5:17.98 and Natalie O&#39;Rourke (Auburn, Calif.) at 5:22.76. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;Kelsey gave another strong performance as always and we got some great performances out of Olivia Deand and Michele Lowery,&quot; Schrader said. <\/p>\n<p>The men&#39;s team had a pair of event winners, as senior Michael Peterson (Ames, Iowa) finished his home career in style, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.35. DU&#39;s other winner was sophomore Daniel Vollmer (Ajax, Ontario), who won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.01. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;I thought Mike Peterson responded really well today and was extremely proud of Daniel Vollmer willing the 100-back and leading off our 200-relay team.&quot; <\/p>\n<p>In the diving competition, men&#39;s sophomore Aaron Feight (Littleton, Colo.) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions and sophomore Hannah Duckett (Magnolia, Texas) finished second in the women&#39;s 1-meter and 3-meter competitions. <\/p>\n<p>The DU men&#39;s team defeated CC 167-47; defeated Colorado School of Mines 163-53; defeated Metro State 165-51, and lost to Air Force 124-94. <\/p>\n<p>The women defeated Colorado College 152-37, Colorado School of Mines 141-64, and Metro State 149-23.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DENVER, Colorado, October 27.
