THE Utah at UC San Diego contest will feature a pair of programs in the beginning of their 2006-07 seasons.  While Utah has competed once, a pair of wins against Denver, UCSD will be breaking ground on the year.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a quick preview of the Utah\/UC San Diego match-up.<\/p>\n<p><b>Date and Time:<\/b> Saturday, October 28, 2006; Noon<br \/>\n<b>Location:<\/b> San Diego, Calif.<br \/>\n<b>Facility:<\/b> Canyonview Pool<\/p>\n<p><b>Utah&#39;s Last Time Out:<\/b><br \/>\nThe Utes began their season with a pair of wins over Denver on Oct. 21.  The women downed Denver, 176.5-104.5, while the men won by a score of 188-95.  For the women, Kelsey Patterson won both diving events, while Adrienne Coburn won the 200 breast (2:23.80) and 200 IM (2:08.78). Alison McInturff won two events as well, taking home top honors in the 100 free (52.30) and the 400 free relay. Amber Walter, also on the winning 400 free relay team, tallied two other victories on the day with her time of 23.85 in the 50 free and also 1:04.42 in the 100 breast.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#39;s side, David Maasberg won three events, coming in first in the 50 free (21.62), 100 free (47.07) and also 400 free relay (3:08.92). Andrew Cole won three events as well, the 400 free relay, 100 back (52.40), and 200 back (1:54.22). Adam Oliver tallied two victories as well for Utah, winning the 1000 free (47.88) and 500 free (4:46.46).<\/p>\n<p><b>Looking forward with Utah head coach Michael Litzinger:<\/b><br \/>\n<i>It is always exciting to swim at and against UCSD. They are a well coached team, and we always expect the best when we swim them. This is our first opportunity to swim a meet at sea level as we train at 5,000 feet during the year, so our performances will be a bit better than last week. The Utes look forward to the trip every year, and the Tritons are traditionally great hosts. UCSD has some seasoned veterans on the men&#39;s side especially in the sprint freestyle and IM. Their women are always tough in the breast and short relay events.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b> UC San Diego&#39;s Last Time Out:<\/b><br \/>\nUCSD will open its 2006-07 season against Utah.  Previously, USCD held its intrasquad Blue and Gold scrimmage on Oct. 13. On the women&#39;s side, Susan Bell won the 50 back in 27.74 and the 300 IM in 3:23.94. Additionally, Andrea Lippin took control in the distance events, including a time of 8:32.62 in the 800 free.  Shannon Simonds took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.62.  Karla Holman won the 150 fly at 1:34.33 and Heather Szmidt took the 50 fly at 26.94.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#39;s side, Fuller paced UCSD in the 200 free (1:44.07), 50 free (21.11) and 100 free (47.52).  Kevin Le swam a time of 1:22.44 in the 150 fly and a 1:23.75 in the 150 back.  Artur Kubalski won points for the gold team with an 800 free time of 8:05. <\/p>\n<p><b>Looking forward with UCSD head coach Scott McGihon:<\/b><br \/>\n<i>On the women&#39;s side, the UCSD Tritons will be led by a very talented senior class.  Emily Harlan, Susan Bell and Andrea Lippin are the senior leaders for UC San Diego.  Harlan has finished in the top-three in the 50 free at the Division II NCAA Championships every year, Bell is consistently the most versatile swimmer for the Tritons, with the ability to final in eight events at DIIs, while Lippin is the top returning distance swimmer in the country for DII.  They will be joined by sophomores Shannon Simonds (school record holder in the 200 Free), Aubrey Panis, Kendall Bohn (3rd in the 200 BR last year) and Jennifer Sims (2nd in the 200 Fly last year), as well as newcomers Karla Holman and Tori Edmiston.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#39;s side, senior leaders will also pave the way for UCSD.  Tim Fuller looks to crack the finals in two events at DII, while Jacob Dong looks to return to the meet after a 2 year hiatus.  Over on the boards, seniors Andrew Skewes and Daniel Gordh lead UCSD, with Skewes the top returning male diver at the DII level.  Junior Evan Hsiao, who has placed fourth in the 100 breast every year at DII also returns, and is joined by sophomores Steven Hardy and Artur Kubalski.
