LOS ANGELES, California, October 24. ACCORDING to a weekend story in the Los Angeles Daily News<\/i>, Anthony Ervin – once again – is contemplating a return to the pool. Well, sort of. In the article, written by Ross Siler, Ervin mentions that he believes he can return to the top of the global sprint scene. Yet, Ervin also indicates that he wants to tend to a few matters before committing to training and a regimen that could land him a bid to the Beijing Olympics. <\/p>\n
Into his musical career, Ervin shared gold in the 50-meter freestyle at the Sydney Olympics with Gary Hall Jr. Whether he desires to return to that level of standing is questionable. Siler's piece included interviews with Erik Vendt, Mike Bottom and Mark Schubert. The most telling quotes arrived from Bottom, Ervin's former coach and considered one of the top sprint minds in the world, if not the best. Bottom suggested that he'll be willing to go full force with Ervin if the sprinter commits himself completely to the sport.<\/p>\n
If Ervin decides on a return to the sport, he'll have his hands full in the sprint events. Aside from veteran talents like Jason Lezak and Neil Walker, Ervin will have to tangle with Cullen Jones, who enjoyed a breakout summer in the 50 and 100 free events. Jones won the 50 free at the Pan Pacific Championships and had the world's fastest time this year in the one-lap event.
