SEATTLE, Washington, October 21. IN a competitive meet that came down to the final relays, the Seattle University swim teams split dual meets against Linfield College and Simon Fraser University Saturday afternoon at the Connolly Center pool. <\/p>\n
The Simon Fraser women won the 400 freestyle relay to defeat Seattle's women's team, 49-46. The Clan also defeated Linfield, 74-21, while Seattle defeated Linfield, 84-11. On the men's side, winning the 400 free relay by 8\/100ths of a second enabled Simon Fraser to come out with a 49-46 victory over the Redhawks. Both Simon Fraser (65-30) and Seattle (79-16) earned wins over Linfield in the triple dual meet format. <\/p>\n
The first race of the meet was just as close as the last race, as Seattle's team of Francesca Reale (Gig Harbor, Wash.), Erin Matthew (Bremerton, Wash.), Lindsey Gall (Chehalis, Wash.), and Elizabeth Hanohano (Honolulu, Hawaii) defeated Simon Fraser in the women's 400-medley relay by 17\/100ths of a second. Seattle's men's 400-medley relay team of Bryson Chiu (Carmel, Ind.), Doug Djang (Seattle, Wash.), Chris Coley (Austin, Texas), and Bryant Bevers (Federal Way, Wash.) easily won its race in a time of 3:38.27. <\/p>\n
Dwight Thompson (Lake Forest Park, Wash.) picked up two victories during the meet, winning the 1000 freestyle in 9:50.01 and the 500 freestyle in 4:52.30. On the women's side, Hanohano earned two wins during the afternoon, taking the 200 freestyle in 2:00.61 and the 100 freestyle in 55.05. <\/p>\n
Other Seattle swimmers who won events include Gordon Smith (Kennewick, Wash.) in the men's 200 freestyle (1:44.92), Djang in the men's 50 freestyle (22.23), and Gall in the women's 100 butterfly (58.30). Smith finished second in the men's 100 freestyle (48.08), Djang placed second in the men's 100 breaststroke (59.09), and Gall touched second in the women's 50 freestyle (25.59).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
