SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, October 21. THE University of Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams both opened up with victories on Saturday. Utah beat Denver University by a score of 176.5-104.5 for the women and the Ute men won by a score of 188-95. It was the first dual meet of the season and now Utah sits with a record of 1-0. <\/p>\n
On the women's side Utah was bolstered by strong performances all around. Kelsey Patterson won both diving events, while Adrienne Coburn won the 200 breast (2:23.80) and 200 IM (2:08.78). Both of Coburn's winning times will be among the top in the conference early in the season. Alison McInturff won two events as well, taking home top honors in the 100 free (52.30) and the 400 free relay. Amber Walter, also on the winning 400 free relay team, tallied two other victories on the day with her time of 23.85 in the 50 free and also 1:04.42 in the 100 breast. <\/p>\n
For the men, David Maasberg won three events, coming in first in the 50 free (21.62), 100 free (47.07) and also 400 free relay (3:08.92). Andrew Cole won three events as well, the 400 free relay, 100 back (52.40), and 200 back (1:54.22). Adam Oliver tallied two victories as well for Utah, winning the 1000 free ((:47.88) and 500 free (4:46.46). The Utes dominated the middle distance events and cruised to victory. <\/p>\n
