ANNAPOLIS, Maryland, October 21. KEVIN Mukri won both backstroke events to help the Navy men's swimming and diving team record a 179.5-92.5 victory over Johns Hopkins Saturday in Lejeune Hall. The Mids improved to 4-0 on the young season with the victory, while the Blue Jays opened their year with the loss. <\/p>\n
"I was very pleased with how the team performed today," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts. "Our senior class set a great example for the remainder of the team with their drops in time from the first week of the season." <\/p>\n
Mukri recorded a time of 59.11 to win the 100-meter backstroke by 1.2 seconds over Johns Thomas of Johns Hopkins and would later go on to post a three-second victory in the 200 back with a clocking of 2:06.47. <\/p>\n
In addition to Mukri's pair of wins, Navy totaled six additional individual swimming event victories during the meet, with five of those triumphs recorded by freshmen. The list of wins by newcomers featured Jack Curran in the 200 free, Andrew Utama in the 100 breast, Andrew Hetzner in the 200 fly, Adam Meyer in the 200 breast and Cody Reeb in the 400 free. <\/p>\n
Meyer also recorded the top time in the 200 individual medley, but was listed as an exhibition swimmer in the race. <\/p>\n
