﻿{"id":122404,"date":"2015-02-07T10:29:17","date_gmt":"2015-02-07T17:29:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=122404"},"modified":"2015-02-07T10:29:17","modified_gmt":"2015-02-07T17:29:17","slug":"utah-womens-swimming-tops-oregon-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/utah-womens-swimming-tops-oregon-state\/","title":{"rendered":"Utah Women&#8217;s Swimming Tops Oregon State"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SALT LAKE CITY &#8211; The Utah women&#8217;s swimming and diving team kicked off a busy weekend of racing Friday night with a Pac-12 conference victory over visiting Oregon State, 141-115, at the Ute Natatorium.<\/p>\n<h2>Utah Press Release<\/h2>\n<p>The University of Utah women\u2019s swimming team came away with a win against the Oregon State Beavers this Friday at the Ute Natatorium, 141-115.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought it was good. We hadn\u2019t won a women\u2019s meet in a while. We have been on a skid,\u201d said Utah head coach Joe Dykstra. \u201cIt was nice only to get a win but to have a real comfortable win where we were able to exhibition some events and really feel good about ourselves. The performance were kind of a mix-meg, kind of so-so. I knew going it was going to be tough for the girls to get up for this meet with the looming BYU meet tomorrow. Tomorrow is such a big deal with such a huge crowd. I knew it was going to be tough to get up for this but they did a good job. We raced hard, we were enthusiastic and came out with a conference win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To open up the meet with a win the 200 medley relay as the team of Megan Kawaguchi, Stina Colleou, Melissa Paakh and Maddie Jamora touched in first-place with a time 1:44.84. Following in second was team of Shayla Archer, Brianna Francis, Petra Soininen and Giuliana Gigliotti (1:46.09).<\/p>\n<p>Kawaguchi also had a first place finish in the 100 back with a time of 56.47.<\/p>\n<p>Colleou took first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.97 while Brianna Francis took third in the event (1:06.19). Colleou also finished in first in the 200 breast with a time of 2:18.49.<\/p>\n<p>In the 200 fly, it was Soininen who took top honors with a time of 2:05.91.<br \/>\nJamora touched in first in the 50 free with a time of 23.58 followed by Gigliotti in second (23.99). Gigliotti would later take first in the 100 free with a time of 51.99. Dorien Butter took second in the event (52.56).<\/p>\n<p>Selin Ozturk took second in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:45.06.<br \/>\nMaddie Meisel recorded a pair of second place finishes in the 200 free (1:54.08) and the 500 free (5:06.32), while Hailey Pabst took first in the 200 back with a time of 2:05.48 and third in third in the 200 free (1:55.55).<\/p>\n<p>In the 100 fly, it went one-two with Paahk in first with a time of 57.00 followed by Soininen (57.04).<\/p>\n<p>The Utah men\u2019s and women\u2019s squad return to the pool tomorrow, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. where they will take on rival BYU in the Ute Natatorium.<\/p>\n<h2>Oregon State Press Release<\/h2>\n<p>The Oregon State swim team finished the regular season Friday afternoon with a trip to take on the Utah Utes. Sammy Harrison took first place in three events, but the Beavers were eventually defeated by the Utes 141-115.<\/p>\n<p>The team of Amani Amr, Czsarina Isleta, Andrea Young and Claire McLaggan finished in the points, stopping the clock in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:47.49.<\/p>\n<p>Harrison finished nearly 40 seconds in front of second place in the 1000 Yard Freestyle, finishing with a time of 10:07.62. Emma Osowski finished third with a time of 10:47.53 while Taylor Frank came in fifth with a time of 11:02.05.<\/p>\n<p>Harrison stayed in the pool and won the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:51.60. Constance Toulemonde finished in fourth place earning a time of 1:55.73. Sophie MacEwan and Amani Amr finished .01 second apart in the 100 Yard Backstroke, with MacEwan getting the edge at 58.78 and Amr coming in at 58.79. Freshman Tair Maimon finished just behind them with a time of 1:01.35. Czarina Isleta finished second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, stopping the clock with a time of 1:05.65.<\/p>\n<p>Brooke Meyer had a second place finish in the 200 Yard Butterfly, finishing at 2:10.34. Abby Maricle finished in fourth place with a time of 2:11.08. Jesikah Cavanaugh finished less than a second later, earning a time of 2:11.45.<\/p>\n<p>Claire McLaggan had the top finish for the Beavers in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 24.89. Toulemonde and Anni Hecker finished less than a second apart in the 100 Yard Freestyle, with Toulemonde coming in with a time of 53.20 and Hecker stopping the clock at 53.90.<\/p>\n<p>Amr finished third in the 200 Yard Backstroke, stopping the clock in 2:07.96 and Maimon came in with a time of 2:13.35.<\/p>\n<p>Isleta finished second in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:22.54. Corrine Shigeta finished just behind her with a time of 2:27.72. Harrison earned her third top finish of the day with a time of 4:55.09 in the 500 Yard Freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Meyer finished third in the 100 Yard Butterfly, stopping the clock at 58.48.Andrea Young came in next for the Beavers with a time of 1:00.08 and Cavanaugh finished right behind her with a time of 1:00.21. Young had the top finish for the Beavers in the 200 Yard IM, with a time of 2:14.14. Isleta came in next, with a time of 2:16.59 while Shigeta was right behind her at 2:17.03.<\/p>\n<p>Toulemonde, McLaggan, MacEwan and Korina Steinbergs ended things for the Beavers in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:37.84. The Beavers will now prepare for the Pac-12 Championships. The event will run from Wednesday Feb. 25 through Saturday Feb. 28 in Federal Way, Wash.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/oregon-state-vs-utah-dual-meet\/ncaa-college\/2015\/February\/6\"
