CANBERRA, Australia, October 21. ONE of the premier training facilities in the world just got an upgrade as the Australian Institute of Sport has opened the $17 million AIS Recovery and Swimming Center. The high-tech facility was built to aid in the preparation leading to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The new addition is part of a $74 million commitment by the Aussie government to enhance the AIS campus.<\/p>\n
The new facility features a 10-lane, 50-meter pool and includes premier analyzing equipment that will aid in the development of Australia's swimmers. Various cameras have been installed at the facility which will allow coaches and swimmers the chance to analyze video footage from different angles. These cameras will help with technical improvements.<\/p>\n
"The Australian Government recognizes that the Institute needs to stay at the cutting edge of sports science and technological innovation to remain internationally competitive and to maximize the performance of Australian swimmers," said Senator Rod Kemp. "Our investment in this new facility will ensure that Australian swimmers continue to have access to world-class training facilities, coaching and support."<\/p>\n
The AIS addition also has a number of recovery tools that will enable athletes to keep their bodies in top physical condition. The building includes three spa baths, a hydrotherapy facility, plunge pool and areas for stretching.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
