RUSSIA continues to serve notice that they are at the top in the synchronized swimming world.  This time, it captured the duet and free routine crowns during the FINA Junior Synchronized Swimming World Championships on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>In the free routine, the Russian contingent of Aleksandra Patskevich, Aleksandra ElChinova, Viktoria Anufrieva, Svetlana Ponkratova, Daria Korobova, Tatiana Zavalishina, Veronika Fedulova, Anna Udovik, Appolinara Simoshina and Volkova Lvbov scored gold with a balanced 94.60 tally.  The Russians turned in matching 47.30 totals in both technical merit and artistic impression.<\/p>\n<p>China recorded a huge upset of Japan with a second-place finish by the team He Dandan, Han Ying, Ge Xiaowei, Huang Xuechen, Yuan Wenjing, Xu Yue, Bao Xiaoxiao, Sun Wenyan, Yu Jiao and Liang Yun.  The Chinese, competing in front of a partisan crowd, posted a 93.50 total for silver based on 46.90 technical merit points and 46.60 artistic impression points.<\/p>\n<p>Japan\u2019s squad of Yukiko Inui, Mai Nakamura, Chiaki Kagaya, Yuma Kawai, Miho Arai, Yumi Adachi, Yui Ueminami, Natsuki Ohhara, Chihiro Matsumoto and Yuki Kagaya settled for third with 92.60 points.  While the Japanese tallied 46.70 technical merit points, they suffered in artistic impression with only 45.90 points to finish behind the Chinese for the first time during the meet.<\/p>\n<p>In the duet competition, the Russian duo of Antonina and Sofia Volkova smashed the rest of the field.  The Russians totaled 94.10 points with 47.10 from technical merit and 47.00 from artistic impression.<\/p>\n<p>Spain\u2019s twosome of Ona Carbonell and Cristina Violan edged out China\u2019s team of He Dandan and Han Ying for silver.  The Spaniards tallied 92.90 points with 46.60 artistic impression points and 46.30 technical merit points.
