MOORESVILLE \u2013 SwimMAC Carolina is looking to expand its operations to Mooresville, N.C., in the coming years, but must wait for the county commissioners to approve the bonds needed to pay for the state-of-the-art swimming facility that will be coupled with a new Doubletree by Hilton hotel.<\/p>\n

Brandon Drawz, SwimMAC\u2019s executive director, was part of last week\u2019s presentation to the commissioners that showed artist\u2019s renditions of the swim facility. Drawz said the team has raised the money needed but will need the approval of the bonds that developers say will help with construction.<\/p>\n

According to an article in the Mooresville Tribune<\/a>, the SwimMAC facility and the Doubletree by Hilton hotel were designed by the same architect, so the two buildings will have a similar look once finished.<\/p>\n

SwimMAC Carolina raised $6 million to not only help with construction of the new 50-meter pool, but expand and improve five of its other training sites in the area. Mooresville is located about 30 miles north of Charlotte, and the new facility would be SwimMAC\u2019s northernmost site. The plan, according to Drawz, would be to bring more high-level meets to the area with the new facility, including YMCA nationals and Masters nationals. Charlotte hosts the Arena Pro Swim Series each year, and it\u2019s likely the meet could move to this new facility. Having the proposed 243-room Doubletree by Hilton hotel very close to the natatorium would create an extra benefit for teams traveling to any meets there.<\/p>\n

The swim facility and hotel would be part of the growing LangTree Lake Norman community, which is adding new retailers to the area every month. Developers are hoping the lakefront location will appeal to not only families looking to relocate, but for businesses looking to expand, such as SwimMAC.<\/p>\n

No date was mentioned for the opening of SwimMAC\u2019s new pool, as everyone is awaiting the bond approval. According to the Tribune, the commissioners are expected to vote at their February meeting. The Local Government Commission would be required to approve the bonds as well at a future meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
