WEST CHESTER, Pennsylvania, October 7. THE West Chester University men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming teams opened up the 2006-07 campaign with a pair of victories over Shippensburg. The women claimed a 170-92 victory, while the men won 194-68 on Saturday in West Chester, Pa.<\/p>\n
On the women\u2019s side, the foursome of Leanne Rowland, Kate Jones, Kori Kilfeather and Jackie Borkowski teamed up to win the 400-yard medley relay in 4:02.36.<\/p>\n
Individually, Rowland won the 50 back (29.40) and 100 back (1:02.93), and took second in the 200 IM (2:17.69), while Kilfeather claimed the 100 fly in 58.94. Borkowski was a triple-winner after she snagged first place in the 50 free (24.54), won the 100 free (54.51) and claimed the 50 fly (26.54).<\/p>\n
Katie Brosseau made her WCU debut with a victory in the 1000 free (10:44.70), 500 free (5:17.38) and 200 IM (2:16.50), while Alyssa Smidlein took second in the 1000 free (11:00.72). Danielle Ierley captured the 200 free in 1:59.70, while Erin West placed second in 2:01.03. Christiana Angstadt took second in the 500 free with a 5:24.87.<\/p>\n
On the men\u2019s side, the 400-yard medley relay quartet of Jeremy Butler, Marek Matopolski, Joerg Zimmermann and Bill Marcum took first place in 3:34.77.<\/p>\n
Matapolski also claimed first place in the 50 breast (27.17), the 200 IM (2:01.10) and the 100 breast (59.93), and Jeremy Sherin claimed second place in 27.55. Zimmermann won the 100 fly (53.18) and took second in the 50 fly (24.68).<\/p>\n
Chris Salomone took first place in the men\u2019s 1000 free (10:02.79) and Cody Clauser claimed second in the race with a time of 10:08.24 as the Golden Rams dominated.<\/p>\n
Bart Ostrowski was a double-winner for the Golden Rams in his WCU debut, capturing the 200 free (1:45.45) and the 100 free (48.47). Devin Canfield captured three events for WCU – the 50 back (25.38), 50 fly (24.36) and 100 back (54.16) – while Jeremy Butler was second in the 50 back (25.73) and second in the 200 IM (2:06.37).<\/p>\n
