{"id":120991,"date":"2015-01-25T10:58:01","date_gmt":"2015-01-25T17:58:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=120991"},"modified":"2015-01-25T10:58:01","modified_gmt":"2015-01-25T17:58:01","slug":"katinka-hosszu-adam-peaty-sizzle-flanders-speedo-cup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katinka-hosszu-adam-peaty-sizzle-flanders-speedo-cup\/","title":{"rendered":"Katinka Hosszu, Adam Peaty Sizzle at Flanders Speedo Cup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ANTWERP &#8211; The second, and final, day of the Flanders Speedo cup featured a double from the Iron Lady Katinka Hosszu as well as a blistering breaststroke from Adam Peaty.<\/p>\n<p>Hosszu, <a title=\"James Guy, Aimee Willmott, Laszlo Cseh Double at Flanders Cup\" href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/james-guy-aimee-willmott-laszlo-cseh-double-flanders-cup\/\" target=\"_blank\">after a six-medal day yesterday<\/a>, grabbed her second win of the two-day meet with a 1:57.19 in the women&#8217;s 200-meter free. \u00a0That swim cleared the meet record of 1:58.05 set by Siobhan-Marie O&#8217;Connor, and was just less than a second off Hosszu&#8217;s Hungarian record 1:56.30 in the event.<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Connor took second tonight in 1:58.28 with compatriot Jazmin Carlin placing third in 1:59.99.<\/p>\n<p>Hosszu doubled up with a swift battle in the women&#8217;s 200-meter IM as she clocked a 2:10.36 against O&#8217;Connor&#8217;s 2:10.84. \u00a0Both times beat Aimee Willmott&#8217;s meet record of 2:10.87. \u00a0Willmott could not replicate her morning speed as she took third in 2:13.28.<\/p>\n<p>Peaty threw down a 59.48 to win the men&#8217;s 100-meter breaststroke, with Hungary&#8217;s Daniel Gyurta taking second in 1:00.65. \u00a0Peaty is the first man in meet history to clear 1:00, breaking Gyurta&#8217;s meet record of 1:00.12 from 2013. Craig Benson placed third in 1:02.07.<\/p>\n<p>Jazmin Carlin claimed the women&#8217;s 400-meter free crown in 4:10.83 with Willmott (4:13.14) and Hannah Miley (4:13.70) taking second and third .<\/p>\n<p>Rachel Kelly topped the women&#8217;s 100-meter fly in 58.99 with Greece&#8217;s Anna Ntountounaki finishing second in 59.09. \u00a0Kimberly Buys wound up third in 59.78, while Hosszu just missed the podium with a fourth-place 59.86.<\/p>\n<p>Molly Renshaw (2:26.12), Hannah Miley (2:28.00), Katie Matts (2:28.29) and Sophie Taylor (2:33.31) went 1-2-3-4 in the women&#8217;s 200-meter breast for Great Britain.<\/p>\n<p>Lauren Quigley claimed the women&#8217;s 100-meter back title in 1:00.62, just off her 2014 meet record of 1:00.53. \u00a0Georgia Davies finished second in 1:00.98 with Hosszu earning bronze in 1:01.12.<\/p>\n<p>Zsuzsanna Jakabos raced her way to a 25.97 to win the women&#8217;s 50-meter free. \u00a0Flora Molnar (26.04) and Chantal Senden (26.17) rounded out the podium.<\/p>\n<p>Sophie Taylor pocketed the women&#8217;s 50-meter breast crown in 31.47 with Katie Matts (32.16) and Jolien Vermeylen (32.59) placing second and third.<\/p>\n<p>Jay Lelliott clipped Stephen Milne, 15:15.15 to 15:15.27, in the men&#8217;s 1500-meter freestyle finale. \u00a0Gergely Gyurta settled for third in 15:20.28.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Proud hit the wall in 23.66 to win the men&#8217;s 50-meter fly, while Hungary&#8217;s Laszlo Cseh posted a second-place 23.86. \u00a0Proud cleared his meet record of 23.69 with the swim. \u00a0Adam Barrett took third in 24.35.<\/p>\n<p>Lithuania&#8217;s Danas Rapsys crushed the meet record in the men&#8217;s 200-meter back with a 1:58.04. \u00a0That swim destroyed the 1:59.16 set by Peter Bernek back in 2012. \u00a0Craig McNally took second tonight in 1:59.11, also under the former record, and Lander Hendrickx finished third in 2:02.15.<\/p>\n<p>Pieter Timmers touched out Jasper Aerents by the slimmest of margins in the men&#8217;s 100-meter free, 49.27 to 49.28, while Emmanuel Vanluchene took third in 49.76.<\/p>\n<p>Roberto Pavoni clipped James Guy, 4:19.56 to 4:19.61, in the men&#8217;s 400-meter IM. \u00a0Max Litchfield finished third in 4:22.08.<\/p>\n<p>Louis Croenen took home the men&#8217;s 200-meter fly title in 1:57.83, while Laszlo Cseh earned second in 1:59.08. \u00a0Cameron Brodie placed third in 2:00.48.<\/p>\n<p>Christopher Walker-Hebborn hit the wall in 25.41 to win the men&#8217;s 50-meter back, while Liam Tancock took second in 25.81. \u00a0Israel&#8217;s Jonatan Kopelev
