This past Saturday, several fast inter-conference meets were held, shaking up the standings for CAC swimming.<\/p>\n<p>Frostburg hosted a tri-meet with York College and the Randolph Macon Yellow Jackets. Mary Washington traveled to take on conference foe Saint Mary\u2019s, as Salisbury headed to the nations capital to face Marymount University.<\/p>\n<p>Taking a Look\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marymount vs. Salisbury<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Saturday, Marymount hosted Salisbury during their senior meet. For the women, Marymount beat Salisbury by a score of 121-84, winning 8-11 events. For Marymount, senior and captain Casey Thomas made the most of Senior Day winning the 200 yard freestyle (2:02.79) and 100 yard freestyle (55.19), and also anchored the 400 yard medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>For Salisbury, junior Nicki Schult collected the three victories for the team collecting 29 points. Schult took first in the 1,000 yard free (11:37.20), 500 yard free (5:36.82) and as anchor in the 400 free relay (3:59.41).<\/p>\n<p>For the men, Marymount also won 8-11 events winning the meet 117-88. For Marymount, Thomas Brierly placed first in the 500 yard free (5:04.49) and the 200 yard free (1:49.69) Fellow freshmen Ross Wiley also took first place in the 200 yard IM (2:06.00). Wiley had a thrilling 200 yard back finishing, less than one second ahead of Eyigor Okan at (1:59.00).<\/p>\n<p>For the Seagulls, William Gough had a big day, achieving three first places in the 50 yard free (22.09), 100 yard free (49.62) and and as anchor leg in the 400 free relay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mary Washington vs. Saint Mary&#8217;s<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Saturday also saw Mary Washington take on Saint Mary\u2019s. Mary Washington swept the meet having the women win 131-74, and the men triumphed 140-64. The lady Eagles opened up with a close first place in the 400 medley relay. The team of Katie Fago, Alex Parrish, Hannah Hagy and Stephanie Hallock finished in first place with a time of 1:52.50, and never looked back.<\/p>\n<p>A true team effort, many members of the Eagles claimed victory in their races. Anna Corley took gold in the 200 yard free (2:01.14) as teammate Robin Brazier touched for second right behind Corley (2:02.08). The 400 yard IM also saw a 1, 2 punch for the Eagles as Megan Murphy took gold (4:43.67) and Abby Cox earned second at (4:44.22).<\/p>\n<p>Saint Mary\u2019s bright spot in the meet came when Cara Machlin picked up two first places Saturday in the 1,000 yard free (11:07.11) and 500 yard free (5:27.32). Senior captain and former CAC swimmer of the week Brooke Raab also notched a first place in the 200 yard fly (2:15.04).<\/p>\n<p>For the men, the Eagles were also a very balanced team with different swimmers taking first places. Much like the women\u2019s team, the men opened with a win the in 200 medley relay which consisted of Sean Mayer, Vance Solseth, Dallas Tarkenton, and Alex Anderson (1:37.33). They never looked back. Zach Eisig won the 1,000 yard free (10:08.50) as well as the 500 yard free (4:53.37).<\/p>\n<p>The Eagles really sealed the deal after the 50 yard free, finishing 1,2,3,4 led by Junior Matthew Garstka (22.50). Saint Mary\u2019s Matt Walchuck won two freestyle events Saturday including a thrilling 100 yard free (49.41) and 200 yard free (1:47.46).<\/p>\n<p>Grant Burgess, known for his winning ways in distance events, just grabbed second place (4:56.93) ahead of the Eagles Chris Cassingham. Burgess also notched a third place in the 400 yard IM finishing at 4:28.15.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Frostburg State vs. York College of PA vs. Randolph Macon<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Frostburg State hosted York College of PA and Randolph Macon in a tri-meet Saturday. For the women, York beat Frostburg 65-30, but fell to Randolph Macon 48-47. The men\u2019s side saw York beat Frostburg 80-15, but fall to Randolph Macon 59-36. For the lady Spartans, Kacey Banks grabbed a first place in the 400 meter IM (5:39.13), as well as a second in the 400 meter free (5:05.24).<\/p>\n<p>Senior Courtney Dacheux helped put the Spartans on the board with two runner up finishes in the 50 meter free (28.70) and 100 meter free (1:04.54). As for the Bobcats, Macey Nitchie picked up valuable points with two first places in the 50 meter free (28.03) and 100 meter free (28.03). Jaclyn Franzak picked some points up as runner up in the 100 meter fly (1:12.36) as teammate Kaitlyn Donch also grabs a close runner up in the 100 meter breast (1:23.36).<\/p>\n<p>York men\u2019s squad opened up the meet with a second place finish in the 200 meter medley relay made up of Morgan Schreiber, Kyle Walthall, Shane Bonner and Bryant Hughes (1:50.81). Kyle Walthall was a big boost in points for the Spartans finishing second in the 800 meter free (9:22.17) as well as winning the 100 meter breast (1:06.67).<\/p>\n<p>Donald Timmerman quickly followed behind with a fourth place finish (1:10.42). The men\u2019s squad for the Bobcats did shell out some points during the meet. Freshmen Christian March finished second in the 50 meter free topping off at 25.42.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upcoming:<\/strong><br \/>\nJanuary 23rd Frostburg at Davis and Elkins<br \/>\nJanuary 24th Saint Mary\u2019s at Salisbury 1pm; Marymount York College of Pa 1pm; Gettysburg at Mary Washington 1pm; Frostburg at Hampton Sydney with Hollins and Guildford<\/p>\n<p>CAC Swimmers of the Week for week of January 18th \u2013 January 24th<br \/>\nCapital Athletic Conference named both Marymount swimmers Casey Thomas and Thomas Brierly CAC swimmers of the week. Thomas earned 30 points for the Saints in her Senior meet over Salisbury, taking first place in the 200 yard free (2:02.79) and 100 yard free (55.19) and 400 medley relay.
