World Championships in relay duty, tested positive for a diuretic as part of a urine sample taken during that meet <a href=\"http:\/\/sportv.globo.com\/platb\/blogdocoach\/2015\/01\/20\/o-que-se-sabe-do-teste-analitico-adverso-de-joao-gomes-junior\/\" target=\"_blank\">according to SporTV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SporTV reports that Gomes Jr. tested positive for a diuretic during the meet, but only swam during prelims in each of Brazil&#8217;s world-title winning relays. \u00a0Gomes Jr. also finished eighth in the 50 breast and 23rd in the 100 breast in Doha.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe received the news with indignation,\u201d Gomes&#8217; lawyer\u00a0Marcelo Franklin told <a href=\"http:\/\/globoesporte.globo.com\/natacao\/noticia\/2015\/01\/ele-esta-ansioso-para-mostrar-que-e-inocente-diz-advogado-de-joao-jr.html\" target=\"_blank\">GloboEsporte.com<\/a>. \u201cHe is eager to show that he is innocent, and I\u2019m confident that I can prove it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian Swimming Federation is working on a defense for Gomes Jr., with Gomes Jr. likely using the same defense of cross contamination that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/updated-warnings-given-to-cesar-cielo-three-other-brazilian-swimmers-after-positive-drug-test-fina-investigating\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cesar Cielo and a few other Brazilian swimmers used successfully to fight off positive tests<\/a> in the past.<\/p>\n<p>If FINA follows recent history, Brazil could lose all three of its gold medal swims. \u00a0However, FINA also had a tough time making a positive test stick against Mads Glaesner as the Danish swimmer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mads-glaesner-wins-doping-appeal-retains-world-title\/\" target=\"_blank\">held onto his 2012 short course world title following a doping test appeal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is the seventh positive test for a diuretic for a Brazilian swimmer, and is the 31st positive test for Brazilian swimming overall in its history <a href=\"http:\/\/sportv.globo.com\/platb\/blogdocoach\/2015\/01\/20\/o-que-se-sabe-do-teste-analitico-adverso-de-joao-gomes-junior\/\" target=\"_blank\">according to
