YICHANG, China, August 30. TRAGEDY struck the Chinese National Open Water Swimming Championships last week when Jin Bokang drowned during the 2,000-meter race in the 60-year-old age group. According to the Chinese People\u2019s Daily<\/i>, the 61-year-old went under water about 200 meters from the finish, but lifeguards on the scene were unable to locate the swimmer.<\/p>\n
Jin\u2019s body was found the following day and officials with the Chinese Swimming Association indicated that the 2002 national champion in the 5,000-meter open-water swim had suffered a heart track brought on by high blood pressure. According to the newspaper report, Jin kept his medical issues private and did not take part in the medical clearance performed by meet organizers.
