AUBURN – The University of Texas swimming and diving teams swept Auburn on Thursday night at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center, with the Longhorn women coming out on top 176-124 and the men taking a 156-135 win.<\/p>\n

Texas won 12 of the 16 events on the women’s side behind several strong performances from its senior class. Senior Kaitlin Pawlowicz swept the distance freestyle events, claiming the 1000 free in 9:47.63 and later winning the 500 free in 4:49.21. Senior Gretchen Jaques continued her winning ways in the breaststroke events, getting to the wall first in the 100 (1:00.67) and 200 (2:13.64). Kelsey Leneave, also a senior, swept the butterfly events with a 53.91 in the 100 fly and 1:58.66 in the 200 fly. Emma Ivory-Ganja won both diving events for Texas, posting a score of 295.43 in the 1-meter and a 326.40 in the 3-meter.<\/p>\n

Sophomores Madisyn Cox and Tasija Karosas also contributed two individual wins each for the Longhorns. Cox topped the 200 free (1:48.00) and 200 IM (2:00.54), while Karosas got to the wall first in the 100 back (54.28) and 200 back (1:56.29).<\/p>\n

Auburn claimed both women’s relays, as Jillian Vitarius, Beatriz Travalon, Megan Fonteno and Allyx Purcell topped the 200 medley relay in 1:39.27 and Purcell, Fonteno, Alex Merritt and Valerie Hull posted a 3:19.71 in the 400 free relay. Purcell won the only two individual events for the Tigers with a 22.64 in the 50 free and a 49.39 in the 100 free.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the top-ranked Texas men racked up 11 wins against the host Tigers, kicking off the meet with a close victory in the 200 medley relay. Texas’ Kip Darmody, John Murray, Joseph Schooling and Brett Ringgold just edged Auburn’s Joe Patching, Michael Duderstadt, Arthur Mendes and Jacob Molacek, 1:27.88 to 1:28.03.<\/p>\n

The Longhorns kept the ball rolling, winning the next three events as Clark Smith (1000 free, 9:01.09), Clay Youngquist (200 free, 1:37.21) and Jack Conger (100 back, 48.10) each won their respective individual events. Auburn’s Michael Duderstadt put a halt to the Texas streak with a 54.10 in the 100 breast, before John Martens picked up Texas’ fifth win with a 1:47.36 in the 200 fly.<\/p>\n

Texas freshman Brett Ringgold contributed two wins as he swept the sprint freestyle events with a 20.16 in the 50 free and a 44.14 in the 100 free. Will Licon (200 breast, 1:58.29), Sam Lewis (500 free, 4:27.48), Joseph Schooling (100 fly, 47.59) and Mark Anderson (1-meter diving, 384.30) also won individual events for Texas.<\/p>\n

Fraser McKean (3-meter diving, 401.63) and Joe Patching (200 IM, 1:47.78) each picked up a win for the Tigers, while the foursome of Arthur Mendes, Kyle Darmody, Michael Duderstadt and Jacob Molacek cruised to a 2:57.38 in the 400 free relay to close out the meet with a win.<\/p>\n
