Zhang, Greenberg, Harder and Hogan won the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:03.64.

Tim Wise, the Robert J. H. Kiphuth Director of Men’s Swimming and Diving, said that the meet was “a great team win.”

“Sweeping all 16 events was an impressive performance. I was also very happy that the seniors closed out their four-year dual meet career undefeated against The Big Red,” Wise said

The Yale swimming class of 2015 is the first to defeat Cornell in four consecutive dual meets since the class of 2004.

“Those wins are a testament to the tremendous job our senior class has done for our program,” Wise added.

The Bulldogs’ next meet will be against two more Ivy League opponents: Dartmouth and Penn. That meet will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Jan. 10 in Hanover, N.H.

Cornell Men’s Press Release

Cornell men’s swimming and diving piled up 37 top five finishes, but Yale’s strength at the top of the lineup proved too much as the Bulldogs topped the Big Red 215-85 on Wednesday afternoon at Teagle Pool.

Cornell did not pick up an event win on the afternoon against a strong Yale contingent, but had a number of second place finishes.

Senior diver Tommy Hallowell was second in both 1-meter (299.47) and 3-meter (306.15) competitions on Tuesday night to start off strong.

Wednesday’s swim meet began with the 200 medley relay squad of Dylan Sali, Victor Luo, Jack Brenneman and Tim Satterthwaite finishing second in 1:32.19 and closed out the day with a second place effort in the 400 free relay, with Satterthwaite, Karol Mlynarski, Brenneman and Taylor Adams clocking a time of 3:08.52..

Luo came back to place second in the 100 breast (57.04). Sali was the runner-up in the 200 IM in 1:56.51.

Cornell closes out its home dual meet season on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. when Columbia visits Teagle Pool.

Yale Women’s Press Release

The Yale women’s swimming and diving team opened 2015 with a win over Cornell, 200-100. The Bulldogs had a strong showing right from the start of the meet and held on through the final relay.

The meet started with the 3-meter and 1-meter diving events on Tuesday night. Lilybet MacRae led the field from the start of the 3-meter event and set a new pool record with 319 points, clearing out a 23 year old record. In the 1-meter event, MacRae again finished in first place, followed by junior Kelly Sherman in second place.

The swimming competition started with the 200-yard medley relay. The Bulldogs pulled in valuable points when they finished 1-2-4.

In the 1000-yard freestyle, a trio of juniors led by Eva Fabian represented the Bulldogs. Fabian won in 10:03, Emma Smith finished in second place, and Casey Lincoln finished in fifth place. In the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Anna Wujciak led the pack and held off a late push by a Cornell competitor. Freshman Danielle Liu also touched ahead of Cornell, finishing in second.

Michelle Chintanaphol and Heidi VanderWel were well ahead of the pack in the 100-yard backstroke, as was freshman Pauline Kaminski in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The sophomore duo of Isla Hutchinson-Maddox and Sydney Hirschi led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 200-yard butterfly, finishing in 2:01.74 and 2:04.56, respectively. Freshman Maddy Zimmerman was third in 2:07.11.

In the sprint events, the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, the Bulldogs put up a fight against a strong slate of Cornell sprinters. Kina Zhou won the 50-yard freestyle. Liu fought a close race but ended up second in the 100-yard freestyle, followed by Mackenzie Franklin in fourth and Cheryl Xiang in sixth.

Chintanaphol led the way in the 200-yard backstroke; Kate Rogers was in second for the majority of the race but was narrowly passed by a Cornell competitor in the final fifty yards, and finished in third place.

Senior Jacqui Levere led the Bulldogs in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing second in 2:25.36.

Fabian set the second new pool record of the meet in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:54.99. Cailley Silbert and Olivia Jameson finished in third and fourth, respectively.

The Bulldogs raked in more points with wins in the final two individual events: Zimmerman took the 100-yard butterfly and Zhou took the 200-yard individual medley.

In the final race of the meet, the 400-yard freestyle relay, Cornell put up a good field, but Yale’s “A” relay out touched them in 3:30.34 to Cornell’s 3:30.51.

Assistant coach, Dani Korman said, “It was a great team win where everyone contributed after a successful training trip. The divers set the tone on Tuesday night and the swimmers followed it up on Wednesday. We are excited to come back and race again on Saturday.”

The win over the Big Red comes shortly after the Bulldogs’ return from their winter training trip in Cocoa Beach, Florida last week. Next up on the schedule is a tri-meet with Dartmouth and Penn this Saturday.

Cornell Women’s Press Release

Meredith Drummond (200 breast) and Jenna Immormino (100 free) each won individual events, but Yale’s superior depth proved too much as the Bulldogs won a 200-100 dual meet decision on Wednesday afternoon at Teagle Pool. Cornell slipped to 3-3 overall (2-3 Ivy) with the loss.

Immormino swam a fine 51.59 in the 100 free to top the field by more than half a second, with Cari Stankaitis finishing third (53.31). Two races later, Drummond went 2:22.91 in the 200 breast to lap the field by nearly two and a half seconds.

The Big Red had a number of second place finishes as well, with Bianca Herlitz-Ferguson was second in the 3-meter diving competition on Tuesday night with a 261.52, finising behind Yale’s Lilybeth McRae’s pool record 317.11. Drummond was second in the 100 breast (1:07.87) and Immormino was the runner-up in the 50 free (24.40). Billy Murch Elliot (2:05.52) placed second in the 200 back and the 200 IM (2:07.28), while her twin sister Currie, was second in the 500 free (5:01.79) and third in the 200 IM (2:07.73).

The 400 free relay squad of Stankaitis, Jennifer Zhang, Chandra Yueh and Immormino was edged out by Yale in 3:30.51, just .17 out of first.

Cornell will host Columbia on Friday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. at Teagle Pool.

Results: Yale vs. Cornell (Men)

<a
