{"id":118957,"date":"2015-01-07T07:31:51","date_gmt":"2015-01-07T14:31:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=118957"},"modified":"2015-01-07T07:31:51","modified_gmt":"2015-01-07T14:31:51","slug":"fina-short-course-world-junior-records","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/fina-short-course-world-junior-records\/","title":{"rendered":"FINA Short Course World Junior Records Benchmarks Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LAUSANNE &#8211; Recently, FINA released <a title=\"FINA World Junior Records\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fina.org\/H2O\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=1271&amp;Itemid=633\" target=\"_blank\">an update to its FINA World Junior Records lists<\/a>, and this included an announcement of the newly-minted FINA Short Course World Junior Records benchmarks.<\/p>\n<p>Contrary to how FINA handled the announcement of the long course records, this time around FINA has decided to only list the time it will take for the first person to be considered to have broken a record. \u00a0No one has been anointed as the new world junior record holder in the short course events.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, because of FINA&#8217;s requirement that all world records (<a title=\"FINA Officially Recognizes Lauren Boyle\u2019s Controversial 1500 Freestyle Short Course World Record\" href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/fina-officially-recognizes-lauren-boyles-controversial-1500-freestyle-short-course-world-record\/\" target=\"_blank\">well, most of them anyway<\/a>) follow a stringent set of rules that include drug testing, the organization did not always recognize the actual best time ever for a junior-level swimmer in the long course events. \u00a0For instance, many of Katie Ledecky&#8217;s amazing swims from a few years back were not recognized as world junior records until she absolutely demolished the record books this summer to make it a moot point.<\/p>\n<p>FINA will recognize world junior records starting with competitions as of Jan 1, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>To be able to set one of these records, girls must be 14-17 of boys must be 15-18 as of Dec. 31 of the year they set the record.<\/p>\n<h2>FINA Short Course World Junior Records<\/h2>\n<h2>BOYS<\/h2>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/]<br \/>\n\n<h2>GIRLS<\/h2>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/]<br \/>\n\n<h2>MIXED<\/h2>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/]<br \/>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LAUSANNE &#8211; Recently, FINA released an update to its FINA World Junior Records lists, and this included an announcement of the newly-minted FINA Short Course World Junior Records benchmarks.
