Bick<\/p>\n<p>TUCSON \u2013 The second half of the collegiate season in the United States started last weekend with several notable performances in Division I competition. Though no jaw-dropping times were posted, many athletes swam tough in the first meet after a grueling period of training during the holiday break from studies.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout this season and in his three years so far at the University of Georgia, Matias Koski has shown some remarkable range in freestyle. He\u2019ll win the sprint freestyles at one meet, then back it up with a win or two in the distance events the following week. Sometimes, he will mix it up with a distance race and a sprint race on the same day. He did just that on Friday at the dual meet against South Carolina, winning the 50, 100 and 1000 freestyles. The times \u2013 20.25 in the 50, 44.85 in the 100 and 9:07.10 in the 1000 \u2013 won\u2019t make his competition nervous, but it shows a versatility that can\u2019t be found in many other athletes at the college level.<\/p>\n<p>Look for Koski to be a strong component of Georgia\u2019s relays in the championship season as he looks to get into the top three once again in the individual events at the NCAA championships. Koski was a top-three finisher in the 500 and 1650 freestyles at the NCAA championships in 2013, but stumbled a bit in 2014.
