JAY Benner has been named the head coach of the Mecklenburg Aquatic Club on Sunday.  Benner heads to North Carolina from the Tacoma Swim Club, a USA Swimming Gold Medal Club.  He will begin his duties on Sept. 1.<\/p>\n<p>Benner, the USA Swimming Developmental Coach of the Year in 2005, is a finalist for USA Olympic Committee&#39;s Developmental Coach of the Year this year.  Additionally, Benner has coached on the USA World Cup team seven times, while being a member of the U.S. Swimming National Team Coaches List since 1999<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Benner has developed seven National Team Swimmers including Dana Kirk, member of the 2004 Olympic Team.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I am extremely pleased to learn that Mecklenburg Aquatic Club has hired Jay Benner,\u201d USA Swimming&#39;s National Team Head Coach and General Manager Mark Schubert said. \u201cJay is recognized as one of the nation\u2019s top club coaches, an excellent mentor of young talent. He has developed athletes who have become national champions and American Olympians while working in a modest club environment. Jay will flourish with the outstanding facilities and parental support at MAC. His leadership will set a nationwide standard.
