The US Olympic Committee could name its new – and decidedly more powerful – chief executive officer by next weekend. The executive committee could choose from as many as three candidates from a group of finalists that reportedly includes Marla Messing (who headed last summer’s women’s World Cup), Colorado developer Harry Frampton, and Pete Dawkins, the Heisman Trophy winner from West Point who is now a New York financier. The corporate-style CEO, who’ll replace executive director Dick Schultz, will have complete day-to-day control of the reformed USOC. The president will essentially become board chairman, dealing with broad policy issues.
