BALTIMORE, Md., Aug. 15. IN the swimming hotbed of Baltimore, Md., Loyola College named Mike Hoffman as its assistant swimming and diving coach. Hoffman, a 2003 graduate of Loyola, was a standout swimmer at Evergreen and returns to his alma mater as the program\u2019s first full-time assistant. <\/p>\n
\u201cBeing an alumnus of the program, Mike has a strong sense of the student-athletes that will be successful at Loyola,\u201d head coach Brian Loeffler said. \u201cThis full-time assistant coaching position represents the commitment Loyola has to its student-athletes and winning. We already have the finest facility in the MAAC, and adding a full-time position to the coaching staff should secure Loyola as a force in the conference for many years.\u201d <\/p>\n
Hoffman set four school records as a swimmer at Loyola, including two as a member of the 200- and 400-yard medley relay teams in 2002. He currently ranks third on the school\u2019s 100-yard breaststroke list (1:01.04) and fourth on the 100-yard freestyle list (47.79), while both relay records still stand. <\/p>\n
Since graduating from Loyola, Hoffman has been actively coaching in the area. Prior to accepting his current role as assistant with the Greyhounds, he served as assistant head varsity coach at this other alma mater, Georgetown Prep, and has also served as head coach of the Regency Estates Swim Club, The Heights School and Westleigh Recreation Club. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe opportunity to work with Loyola\u2019s program is tremendous,\u201d Hoffman said. \u201cHaving experienced the school first-hand, I truly feel there isn\u2019t a better program, school or city.\u201d <\/p>\n
Hoffman, who has also been working as Director of Alumni Relation and Assistant Dean of Admission at Georgetown Prep, helped that program win the 2005 Washington Metropolitan Swimming and Diving Championships and place second at last year\u2019s National Catholic Swimming Championships. Hoffman has also been working with Rockville-Montgomery Swim Club since 2003 and helps with Special Olympic swimming programs in the area. <\/p>\n
\u201cRMSC and Georgetown Prep are among the top Club and High School teams in the area,\u201d Loeffler said. \u201cMike has had the opportunity to train elite athletes to success. I expect these winning ways to continue in the college ranks.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to working with Coach Loeffler and the team he has already built,\u201d Hoffman said. \u201cThey did great last year, in and out of the pool, and we will expect even more out of them this year.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
