ONE day after setting a world record in the short-course version of the 50-meter freestyle, South Africa\u2019s Roland Schoeman continued to excel at the Deutscher Ring Aquatics meet in Hamburg, Germany. Slated to swim at the upcoming Pan Pacific Championships, Schoeman won the 100 individual medley in 52.56. In the prelims, he popped a time of 52.20.<\/p>\n
Finland\u2019s Hanna Maria Seppala prevailed in the women\u2019s 100 I.M. with a mark of 1:00.63, fast enough to defeat Slovakia\u2019s Martina Moravvoca (1:01.14). Meanwhile, the German contingent was paced by triumphs in the 50 backstroke from Janine Pietsch (27.72) and Thomas Rupprath (23.48). In the 50 free, the Netherlands\u2019 Marleen Veldhuis won in 24.09 and Britta Steffen took second in a German record of 24.24. The Netherlands also received decisions from Inge Dekker in the 100 fly (57.80) and Pieter van den Hoogenband in the 200 free (1:43.52).<\/p>\n
Although Schoeman was the headliner from South Africa, his countrymate, Lyndon Ferns, was the first-place finisher in the 50 butterfly (23.24). On the female side, Suzaan van Biljon was first to the wall in the 200 breaststroke (2:23.42).
