TIANJIN, China, Aug. 12. THE winner of the World Cup semifinal match between the U.S. and Italian Women\u2019s Water Polo Teams came down to an overtime shootout after two three-minute overtime quarters. Italy went five for five on penalty shots, while USA\u2019s Ericka Lorenz missed the third shot for a final score of 12-11. The U.S. team will now play Russia for bronze. Australia defeated Russia, 10-9, in the semifinals to qualify for the gold medal match.
\n\u201cWe picked a bad time to play a bad game against a good team,\u201d Team USA head coach Guy Baker said. \u201cWe were off from the beginning of the game and never truly got into a flow. Italy remained the same as when we played them before, but we very rarely attacked the way we should have. This game will be a painful lesson for us and it will be important to regroup quickly and get ready for the bronze medal game.\u201d <\/p>\n
