IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 11. IT was a night of continual erasing for the wards of the meet-record book at the 2006 Speedo USA Swimming Junior National Championships in Irvine, Calif., on Friday. In all, every event featured a meet standard bettered as eight records fell.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 200-meter IM<\/b>
\nNova of Virginia\u2019s Lauren Beaudreau came through in the 200 IM with a meet-record time of 2:18.38. That effort eclipsed the 2:19.06 previously set by Orinda Aquatics\u2019 Heather White last year. Meanwhile, Salmon Bay\u2019s Lauren Hill finished second in 2:19.94, while Kerr-McGee\u2019s Samantha Woodward garnered third in 2:20.44. All three cleared the Olympic Trial cut.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 200-meter IM<\/b>
\nFour swimmers cleared the meet record in the 200 IM, but Dallas Mustang Matthew Thompson touched first in 2:05.71. That performance bettered the 2:06.27 set by Aces Swim Club\u2019s Mark Dylla during prelims. Meanwhile, Lakeside Swim Team\u2019s Christopher Burckle took second in 2:06.19, while Northern Kentucky Clipper Cory Chitwood placed third in 2:06.26. Dylla wound up fourth in 2:06.27 to equal his prelim time. Overall, five swimmers notched Olympic Trial cuts.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 50-meter Freestyle<\/b>
\nKerr-McGee\u2019s Samantha Woodward raced home to become the first junior national woman under the 26-second barrier with a 25.85. That time broke her meet record of 26.14 set last year. Additionally, Arizona Desert Fox Katherine Raatz snared silver in 26.01, while Sun Devil Aquatics\u2019 Traycie Swartz picked up bronze in 26.42.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 50-meter Freestyle<\/b>
\nStar Swim Team\u2019s Michael Richards broke his own 50 free meet record of 23.59 set during prelims with a 23.49 during finals to capture the gold medal with the only Olympic Trial cut of the men\u2019s 50 free. In other action, Blackhawk Area\u2019s Nicklaus Cordes turned in a silver 23.58, while Clovis Swim Club\u2019s Joshua Daniels pocketed bronze in 23.70.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 1500-meter Freestyle<\/b>
\nSwim Pasadena\u2019s Samantha Vanden Berge rolled past her own meet record of 16:48.57 set last year in the distance event with a 16:46.47. Meanwhile, SoNoCo Swim Club\u2019s Alicia Mathieu earned silver in 16:51.66, while Arizona Desert Fox Alexandra Clarke rounded out the top three with a 16:53.35.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 1500-meter Freestyle<\/b>
\nFast Swim Team\u2019s Tyler Clary made it six meet records in a row with a 15:40.84 to best the 15:40.96 put up by Mission Viejo\u2019s Chad La Tourette last year. City of Shreveport\u2019s Robert Looney placed second in 15:44.88, while Arden Hills\u2019 Scott Korotkin finished third in 15:49.92.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 400-meter Medley Relay<\/b>
\nLakeside Swim Team\u2019s squad of Amanda Faulkner (1:06.13), Devon Callaghan (1:11.86), Leah Reinhardt (1:03.14) and Abigail Fish (58.60) cruised home for a three-second triumph in the 400 medley relay with a 4:19.73. That time shattered the club\u2019s meet-record time of 4:22.88 set last year.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Texas Gold\u2019s contingent of Cassandra Cunningham (1:06.49), Micah Lawrence (1:13.13), Lacey Bobo (1:05.17) and Sherrill Thompson (57.39) claimed silver in 4:22.18, while Sun Devil Aquatics\u2019 Haley Krakowski (1:10.08), Mary Olsen (1:13.73), Whitney Lopus (1:01.99) and Traycie Swartz (57.33) finished with bronze in 4:23.13.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 400-meter Medley Relay<\/b>
\nIrvine Novaquatics went off in front of its home crowd as Aaron Casey (1:00.43), John Criste (1:04.92), Kyle Smith (57.31) and Antonio Cisneros (52.64) closed out the men\u2019s meet with a 3:55.30 win in the 400 medley relay. The performance bested the previous meet record of 3:56.03 set by the Cincinnati Marlins last year.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Mecklenburg Aquatics\u2019 sent former head coach Dave Gibson off with a silver medal time as Daniel Johnson (58.86), Chandler Thomas (1:06.42), Kyle Veatch (57.60) and David Toffaletti (53.04) stopped the clock in 3:55.92.<\/p>\n
