STANFORD, Calif., Aug. 10. The final day of swimming competition at the 2006 FINA World Masters Championship featured 12 world record fall at the Belardi and Baker pools at the Avery Aquatic Center on the campus of Stanford University on Thursday.<\/p>\n
World records broken are as follows:
\nUnited States\u2019 Sheri Hart broke the women\u2019s 35-39 50-meter backstroke record of 31.42 previously held by countrywoman Karlyn Pipes-Neilsen since 1999 with a 30.40.<\/p>\n
Switzerland\u2019s Craig Norrey broke the men\u2019s 45-49 50-meter backstroke record of 29.17 previously held by Italy\u2019s Marco Colombo since 2005 with a 29.09.<\/p>\n
Belarus\u2019 Vera Capkova broke the women\u2019s 45-49 50-meter backstroke record of 32.93 previously held by United States\u2019 Laura Val since 1997 with a 32.65.<\/p>\n
A trio of swimmers (Dennis Baker, Marcus Mattioli and Daniel Machek) cleared the men\u2019s 45-49 400-meter freestyle record of 4:21.13 previously held by United States\u2019 Dan Stephenson since 2002. Baker, however, stopped the clock first in 4:15.16.<\/p>\n
United States\u2019 Laura Val smashed the women\u2019s 55-59 400-meter freestyle record of 5:08.91 previously held by countrywoman Barbara Dunbar since 2004 with a 4:50.72.<\/p>\n
France\u2019s Benedicte Duprez broke the women\u2019s 55-59 50-meter backstroke record of 35.55 previously held by United States\u2019 Betty Barnett-Sallee since 2002 with a 35.13.<\/p>\n
Barnett-Sallee returned fire in the women\u2019s 60-64 50-meter backstroke with a 35.79 to break the previous record of 36.61 set by Japan\u2019s Satoko Takeuji in 2004.<\/p>\n
Barnett-Sallee made it a daily double in the women\u2019s 60-64 400-meter freestyle with a 5:21.79 to demolish the 5:39.72 previously held by countrywoman Jackie Marr since 2004.<\/p>\n
Britain\u2019s Jane Asher pushed her world-record haul to five by snapping the women\u2019s 75-79 400-meter freestyle record of 6:25.07 that she set in January with a 6:13.20.<\/p>\n
United States\u2019 Graham Johnston shattered the men\u2019s 75-79 400-meter freestyle record of 5:54.36 previously held by Japan\u2019s Hiroshi Yoshimura since 2004 with a 5:32.06.<\/p>\n
A pair of swimmers (Bunny Cederlund and Betty Christian) cleared the women\u2019s 85-89 50-meter backstroke record of 58.42 previously held by United States\u2019 Aileen Soule since 1991. Cederlund, however, touched first in 53.44. <\/p>\n
Japan\u2019s Goro Kobayashi notched another record, this time in the men\u2019s 90-94 50-meter backstroke, as he eclipsed the 53.26 previously held by countryman Kazunaga Akutsu since 2002 with a 47.63.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
