BOCA RATON – The Florida Atlantic swimming and diving teams picked up three out of a possible four dual meet wins over Marywood and Old Dominion Saturday afternoon as the Florida Atlantic Invitational came to a close. Old Dominion also beat Marywood on both the men’s and women’s sides.<\/p>\n
Florida Atlantic University men\u2019s and women\u2019s swimming and diving hosted Marywood University and Old Dominion University on Saturday to mark the team\u2019s last home meet of the fall season. The women claimed victory over both teams while the men split the day with a win over Marywood and a loss to ODU.<\/p>\n
The women started the meet off strong with a first place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:46.45). The team included Rachel Crino, Hannah Roper, Frida Nilsson and Agi Bucz. Senior Anett Kovacs continued to perform well for the Owls claiming first place in the 1000 free (10:19.64) and 200 fly (2:04.02). Laura Conoscenti came in right behind Kovacs in second place in the 200 fly (2:11.26). Nilsson was the winner of the 100 fly with a final time of 56.82.<\/p>\n
Katie Dodge came up with a big first place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.60. Senior Lefanowicz followed that event with a first place finish of her own in the 100 back coming in at 57.91. Crino was close behind, earning third place in the 100 back (58.77). Coming in first and second in the 200 back was Lefanowicz and Crino with times of 2:05.60 and 2:06.48, respectively.<\/p>\n
In the 100 breast, Roper was FAU\u2019s top finisher taking second place with a time of 1:09.09. She also finished second in the 200 breast coming in at 2:28.50. Bucz and Nilsson finished one and two in the 50 free with times of 23.86 and 24.53. Reuter set a lifetime best in this event with a time of 25.18, which was good for fifth place. Bucz then went on to grab first place in the 100 free (51.76) with Katie Dodge taking second place (53.77). Megan Digulla had a career best time of 55.31 in the 100 free.<\/p>\n
Abbey King saw a first place finish in the 500 free with a time of 5:03.53. Breanna Saukas and Sahra El-Hamaki both set personal bests in the 1000 free with final times of 11:00.18 and 11:05.64, respectively.<\/p>\n
In the women\u2019s 1 meter dive, freshman Kiley Kuether was the Owls\u2019 top performer earning second place with a total score of 278.80. She was followed by Alexa Elkins in third (272.50), Shayna Berndt in fourth (223.70) and Lindsay Brame in fifth (181.35). Kuether claimed first place in the 3 meter dive with a final score of 275.75. Elkins finished second in the 3 meter with a score of 267.20.<\/p>\n
More lifetime bests were set in the 400 IM as Hannah Roper came in fourth with a time of 4:45.76 and Diana Rodriguez came in fifth with a time of 4:55.66. To cap off the day, the team of Nilsson, Bucz, Dodge and Kovacs finished first in the 400 free relay with a final time of 3:33.58.<\/p>\n
The men began the meet with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:36.25). The team included John Brennock, John Nolte, Torbjorn Persson and Joseph Steele. The Owls also took fourth, fifth and sixth in this event.<\/p>\n
Freshman Colton Posey was the top finisher in the 1000 free coming in third in 10:06.63. Posey had his second third place finish of the day in the 400 IM (4:19.30). In the 200 free, Steele, Tucker Lewis, and Matthew Menendez came in fourth (1:49.71), fifth (1:51.65) and sixth (1:52.99), respectively.<\/p>\n
The next event was the 100 back where Hunter Swartsel took second place in 53.18 followed closely by Brennock in third with a time of 53.90. Sophomore Austin Olivares earned third in the 200 fly with a time of 1:58.20. He also came in third, and was the team\u2019s top performer, in the 500 free with a final time of 4:52.81.<\/p>\n
Nolte came away with an impressive first place finish in the 50 free with a time of 21.56. Persson and team captain Richard Andrews finished fourth (22.03) and fifth (22.05), respectively. Brennock claimed third in the 100 free coming in at 48.27. Bennett Bean set a personal best in the 100 free with a time of 49.16, which earned him fifth place.<\/p>\n
In the 200 back, Nick Landi had a lifetime best time of 1:58.40 and finished in second place. Nolte followed that up with third place in the 200 breast (2:12.65). Posey and Johannes Johnston came in fourth (2:14.37) and fifth (2:14.43) in the 200 breast.<\/p>\n
Andrews had another good finish when he earned third in the 100 fly in 52.04 followed by Persson in fourth with a personal best time of 53.36. To conclude the meet, the men\u2019s team of Andrews, Brennock, Persson and Nolte claimed first place in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:08.29.<\/p>\n
The women claimed victory over both the Monarchs (170-130) and the Pacers (253-43). The men defeated Marywood 219 to 69 but lost to ODU 205 to 83.<\/p>\n
For their first meet of the spring season, swimming and diving will take part in the FIU Invitational on Saturday, January 3 in Miami, Fla.<\/p>\n
