MOSCOW – Vlad Morozov turned up the heat during the men’s 100-meter IM at the Salnikov Cup today as he challenged the world record in the event.<\/p>\n
Morozov blasted the finale of the sprint medley with a time of 50.77. That’s just off Markus Deibler’s world record of 50.66 set at the World Short Course Championships<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/] That performance broke Morozov’s Russian record of 50.81 also set at Worlds.<\/p>\n Viacheslav Prudnikov took second tonight in 53.64 with Dmitry Zhilin claiming third in 54.29.<\/p>\n Iron Lady Katinka Hosszu scorched the women’s 100-meter fly with a 55.71 for the win. \u00a0That pushed her to fourth in the world behind only Sarah Sjostrom (54.61), Lu Ying (55.25) and Jeanette Ottesen (55.32). That’s a Hungarian record for Hosszu, cracking 56 seconds for the first time.<\/p>\n Inge Dekker took second tonight in 56.72, while Anastasia Lyazeva placed third in 58.33.<\/p>\n Hosszu doubled up with a 26.66 to win the women’s 50-meter backstroke. \u00a0That’s a bit off her third-ranked season best of 25.96 posted at Worlds, but was enough for a second gold medal.<\/p>\n Aliaksandra Herasimenia placed second in 26.91 with Daria K Ustinova earning third overall in 26.92.<\/p>\n Hosszu kept on rolling with a third gold medal in the women’s 800-meter free. \u00a0She clocked an 8:20.98 for the win, nearly 10 seconds ahead of Anastasia Ivanenko’s second-place 8:30.59. \u00a0Valeria Salamatina took third in 8:40.24.<\/p>\n Hosszu’s fourth gold medal came in the women’s 200-meter backstroke as the world-record holder clocked a 2:01.80. \u00a0That’s well off her world record of 1:59.23<\/a>, but was more than enough for the win tonight.<\/p>\n Daria K Ustinova took second in 2:04.64 with Jenny Mensing placing third in 2:05.87.<\/p>\n Here is Hosszu with her gold medals after day one:<\/p>\n
