OKLAHOMA CITY – Josh Davis, the 42-year-old Masters sprint dynamo, put on a show during the first night of the American Energy Elite Pro-Am.<\/p>\n
The meet is one of two dueling Oklahoma City-based Elite Pro-Ams this weekend.<\/p>\n
John Brown, the original head coach and founder of the meet when it began more than 20 years ago, has since moved on from the Kerr-McGee, then Chesapeake, and now American Energy Swim Club to the King Marlin Swim Club. He is hosting an alternative version of the meet at the Oklahoma City Community College, the historic hosts of the fun winter-based short course yard professional event.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the meet’s founding\u00a0club, American Energy is hosting its own version of the 23rd annual Oklahoma Elite Pro-Am at the Mitch Park YMCA with Josh Davis at the forefront of the event.<\/p>\n
Davis led American Energy to a pair of relay wins tonight in the men’s races.<\/p>\n
Davis (24.19), Jared Prince (26.99), Joseph Short (23.09) and Jonathan Ye (21.77) won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:36.04. \u00a0Wayland Baptist’s Ethan Nicholson (26.80), Bjoern Globke (26.39), Gabriel Phillips (23.56) and Hugo Gallegos (21.49) finished second in 1:38.24. \u00a0Razorback’s Blake Holland (27.86), Samuel Schach (28.87), Jared Crosby (23.81) and John Parmer (21.88) placed third in 1:42.42.<\/p>\n
Davis then led American Energy to the 800-yard free relay victory as Davis (1:43.53), Alan Tran (1:47.64), Joseph Short (1:44.19) and Jonathan Ye (1:46.29) hit the wall in 7:01.65 to dominate the event.<\/p>\n
Razorback’s John Parmer (1:46.80), Jared Crosby (1:44.99), Jason Hunt (1:50.31) and Matthew Cunningham (1:55.30) took second in 7:17.40 with Aquakids’ Charles Rieth (1:48.92), Jackson Wiedower (1:55.19), Anderson Mainord (2:00.66) and Ty Wingfield (1:56.08) earning third in 7:40.85.<\/p>\n
Razorback’s Carly Holland (28.00), Corinne Despain (29.59), Caroline Stelte (27.08) and Martina Thomas (23.44) won the women’s 200-medley relay in 1:48.11 to kick off the evening, while Charger’s Sarah Lott (28.11), Raeleigh Stansbery (32.86), Chrysten Pacheco (26.67) and Natalie Jones (23.60) finished second in 1:51.24.<\/p>\n
American Energy’s Alexis Wilson (30.56), Sarah Helton (30.83), Riley Powelson (28.11) and Avery Niemann (24.81) placed third in 1:54.31.<\/p>\n
Razorback swept the women’s relays as Martina Thomas (1:51.86), Carly Holland (1:56.76), Hayley Pike (1:57.19) and Caroline Stelte (2:03.30) finished in 7:49.11.<\/p>\n
Badger’s Anina Lunda (1:52.81), Riley Mullin (2:05.71), Alexa Lantin (2:05.63) and Nathalie Eid (1:53.45) finished second in 7:57.60. \u00a0Extreme’s Alexandra Robertson (1:55.87), Natalie Vorel (2:00.13), Alexa Acuna (2:03.14) and Ryann James (2:05.76) took third in 8:04.90.<\/p>\n
The individual 1000-yard frees also were a part of the night. \u00a0Badger’s Lindsay Vrooman claimed the women’s title in 9:39.34 with Club Wolverine’s Emily Brunemann finishing second in 9:42.67. \u00a0Badger’s Anina Lund checked in third in 10:02.78.<\/p>\n
The Woodlands’ Mike McBroom won the men’s 1000-yard free in 8:42.25 with Club Wolverine’s Michael Klueh placing second in 8:46.83. \u00a0Badger’s Ryan Feeley wound up third in 8:53.35.<\/p>\n
McBroom’s time stands as the third-fastest all time in the event. \u00a0Erik Vendt (8:36.49) and Connor Jaeger (8:41.09) are the only men to have swum faster.<\/p>\n
Michael Andrew, pictured above with Davis, is one of the many pros slated to begin competing as the meet gets underway with full days starting tomorrow. Nathan Adrian is the headline star of this meet.<\/p>\n
