Women\u2019s 50-meter Breaststroke Semifinals<\/b>
\nBritain\u2019s Kate Haywood posted the fastest qualifying time with a 31.47, while Russia\u2019s Elena Bogomazova touched second in 31.62. Meanwhile, Hungary\u2019s own Agnes Kovacs posted the third-best time of semis with a 32.00.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 100-meter Butterfly Finals<\/b>
\nEuropean record holder Andriy Serdinov won the event in 51.95, just .06 seconds off his meet record time. France\u2019s Amaury Leveaux tool silver in 52.76, while Russia\u2019s Nikolay Skvortsov grabbed bronze in 52.96.<\/p>\n
:"I wanted to break the European record here in Budapest,\u201d Serdinov said. \u201cBut the weather conditions disturbed me."<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 200-meter Freestyle Finals<\/b>
\nPoland\u2019s Otylia Jedrzejczak picked up gold in 1:57.25, while Germany\u2019s Annika Liebs, who split a 1:55 anchor leg during Germany\u2019s 800-meter freestyle world record earlier in the meet, placed second in 1:57.48. Meanwhile, Laure Manaudou finished third in 1:58.38.<\/p>\n
"I had planned to swim the first 100 meters not so fast because I knew I was going to be good in the second,\u201d Jedrzejczak said. \u201cI have won many international titles in my career in the 200 fly, but this is my first victory in the 200 free."<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 50-meter Freestyle Semifinals<\/b>
\nFrance\u2019s Fred Bousquet nearly broke Alexander Popov\u2019s meet record of 21.95 set in 2000 with a semifinal swim of 21.99. Meanwhile, Ukraine\u2019s Olexandr Volynets placed second in 22.02, while Poland\u2019s Bartosz Kizierowski touched third in 22.09.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 50-meter Backstroke Finals<\/b>
\nWorld record co-holder Janine Pietsch of Germany snared the meet record with a 28.36 to surpass second-place Aleksandra Herasimenia\u2019s previous standard of 28.51. Meanwhile, Herasimenia rolled in for silver with a 28.72 to hold off third-place Antje Buschshulte of Germany, who touched in 28.73.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 200-meter Backstroke Finals<\/b>
\nRussia\u2019s Andriy Vyatchanin tore down Germany\u2019s Helge Meeuw\u2019s European record of 1:56.34 set in June by touching in 1:55.44 for gold. Meanwhile, Hungary\u2019s Laszlo Cseh placed second in 1:56.69, while Romania\u2019s Razvan Florea earned bronze in 1:57.83.<\/p>\n

\nHungary\u2019s Beatrix Boulsevicz stopped the clock in first with a 2:09.14, while Italy\u2019s Francesca Segat finished second in 2:09.22. Meanwhile, Poland\u2019s Otylia Jedrzejczak posted the third-best time of 2:09.48.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 50-meter Breaststroke Finals<\/b>
\nUkraine\u2019s Oleg Lisogor and Italy\u2019s Alessandro Terrin will share the 50 breast title with matching 27.48s, while Slovakia\u2019s Matjaz Markic pocketed bronze in 27.87.<\/p>\n
"After I could not win the 100 breast here,\u201d Lisogor said. \u201cI said to myself that I simply had to win this one."<\/p>\n
"This a new Italian record, which is a big success for me,\u201d Terrin said. \u201cSince the 50 is not in the Olympics I will have to start focusing on the 100 for Beijing."<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s 50-meter Freestyle Semifinals<\/b>
\n100-meter freestyle world record holder Britta Steffen of Germany qualified first with a 24.89, while Marleen Veldhuis posted the second-best time of 24.93. Sweden\u2019s Therese Alshammar, the meet-record holder, rounded out the top three with a 25.03.<\/p>\n
Men\u2019s 800-meter Freestyle Relay Finals<\/b>
\n Italy broke its own European record of 7:10.86 set in 2001 with a blistering 7;09.60 on the shoulders of its quartet of Massimiliano Rosolino, David Berbotto, Nicola Cassio and Filippo Magnini. Meanwhile, Britain took second in 7:11.63, while Greece posted a third-place 7:16.67.<\/p>\n
