PHOENIX – Last week we saw some major headlines across the sport. Here are our picks for the top 5 headlines, including a new American record in the 100 free, some National Age Group records and a world record too! <\/p>\n

The CSCAA rankings are released each week and the Texas men are currently at the top of the list leading California and Georgia. Texas men finished second behind Cal last year at NCAA\u2019s so the year is definitely gearing up to be a dog fight. National age group records were off the charts over the last week. <\/p>\nThe Winter Junior Nationals and the Tom Dolan Invite hosted numerous records this past week including Ryan Hoffer in the 15-16 100 freestyle 42.76, Reece Whitley 13-14 200 Breaststroke 1:55.52 and Andrew Seliskar 17-18 200 butterfly 1:41.33. For all new national age group records go to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworld.com\" target=\"_blank\">SwimmingWorld.com<\/a> to read the full stories. <\/p>\nOur number 3 headline goes to Abbey Weitzeil of Canyon Aquatics. Not only did the Junior Nationals in Federal Way see multiple NAG records but they also witnessed a new American record in the 100 freestyle. Weitzeil lead off her 400 freestyle relay with a time of 46.29 to beat Simone Manuel\u2019s previous mark of 46.62. Very impressive. <\/p>\nMireia Belmonte Garcia is continuing to shock the world with strong world record performances in the short course meter pool. Garcia went on to race in the Spanish National Championships last week after an incredible week in Qatar at the World Short Course event. However, she wasn\u2019t done setting world record marks, Garcia dominated the 1500 freestyle with a time of 15:19.71 beating the previous mark by nearly 3 seconds. Garcia now holds 3 short course meter freestyle world records \u2013 the 1500, 800 and 400 \u2013 in addition to the 200 butterfly and 400 IM. Great job Mireia! <\/p>\nAnd our number 1 headline of the week goes to Olympian Nancy Hogshead-Maker who was named the International Olympic Committee\u2019s Woman of the Year during a ceremony at the IOC Session in Monaco. Since winning three gold medals 30 years ago at the Los Angeles Olympic Games, Nancy has been fighting for equality in sports and increased opportunities for women in the athletic endeavors.
