IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 3 KARA Lynn Joyce enjoyed her spot in lane four by winning the 50-meter freestyle in a personal-best time of 24.97 at the 2006 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming Nationals Championships. That effort put her under the 25-second barrier for the first time in her career.<\/p>\n
Her performance proved to be just .07 seconds shy of Dara Torres' meet record of 24.90 set in 2000.<\/p>\n
Olympian Natalie Coughlin claimed silver in 25.17, while Tucson Ford's Courtney Cashion, coached by Frank Busch, snared bronze in 25.20.<\/p>\n
Cashion grabbed the fastest reaction time in .61 seconds.<\/p>\n
In the consolation heat, Fort Worth\u2019s Dana Vollmer, coached by Ron Forrest, ripped off a 25.78 to touch first, as California Aquatics\u2019 Emily Silver, coached by Teri McKeever, placed second in 25.81. Auburn University\u2019s Kara Denby, coached by David Marsh, rounded out the top three with a 25.83.<\/p>\n
In the bonus consolation heat, California Aquatics\u2019 Erin Reilly, coached by McKeever, captured the heat title in 26.04, which shaved .25 seconds off her prelim time of 26.29. Meanwhile, Eagle Swim Team\u2019s Anne Marie Botek, coached by Scott Ward, picked up third in 26.05, which also cut nearly .2 seconds from her prelim time of 26.21.<\/p>\n
